I always thought this summer was set up better for trades, not free agents.

Tons of the free agents have massive question marks attached.

The question is what assets can they use?

We have arguably a top 3 group of prospect defencemen.

I’d see what offers you could get out of teams for Jones/Lagesson/Bear. One of Skinner/Wells too.

I also think you have to at least consider dealing future firsts for the right fit.

For Anaheim's buyout of Corey Perry, the cap hit goes from 2.625 this season to 6.625m in year 2 and then down to 2.0 m for the final two years. Kind of weird with that big jump in year 2.

It's because of the signing bonus in 20/21. They save $6M in salary in 19/20, but only $2M in salary in 20/21.

That's why most contracts nowadays have tons of money tied up in signing bonus because it's what makes them "buyout proof".
