What a disaster this has turned into.

The most damning thing is that Chia refused to believe it was the roster that was the issue. He had to see for himself after changing coaches that even one of the best coaches in history couldn’t get this group to win consistently, and THEN he finally realized it was the roster.

In hindsight it should have been a red flag that a well respected Finnish GM with loads of scouting experience decided not to pick the “obvious” Finnish forward.

While that may be true, we've seen plenty of Canadian gms screw up Canadian picks, same goes for Americans.

I'm sure even he wouldn't have expect JP to be as bad as he's shown up to this point.

It's not like he was some big reach and was drafted strictly for his size.

ISS:

Has a powerful skating stride and has another gear when needed - responsible in all three zones - soft quick hands and a heavy shot. Reads the play well and plays well away from the puck. Has excellent hockey sense. Character guy with all the attributes to be a top end player in the NHL - Showed superstar potential.

Elite Prospects:

Puljujärvi is a big winger who combines size, skating and skill. A strong skater who can blast past the opposition in full speed. Able to use his size, reach and stickhandling skills to retain the puck in speed. A smart player at both ends of the ice, both on and off the puck. Great work ethic and positive attitude. More of a playmaker than a scorer and could improve his shooting skills. Doesn't shy away from physical play, but could use his size more to his benefit.
A truly dominant two-way force that consistently demonstrates elite hockey sense, proactive defensive awareness, and a full array of offensive tools

Bob Mackenzie scout interview about the 2016 draft:

Another Finn, big hard-shooting, strong-skating winger Jesse Puljujarvi, completed TSN's Big Three of this draft by securing nine of 10 third-place votes. That trio is a cut above the rest of this draft class. Not one prospect other than Matthews, Laine and Puljujarvi was ranked in the top three in our survey.
"They all have size, strength, speed and skill in a combination that is greater than any of the other players in the draft," a scout said. "'They clearly separated themselves."

This kid was seen as a highly skilled two way forward who could skate like the wind, and was even praised for his hockey sense.

There is no way that all just went away. Whatever is plaguing him is not a lack of skill.

Bro this kid is 20 years old...

You know a guy like Olli Jokinen was on a 20 point pace for his first 4 seasons right?

He’s shown very little offense in the NHL. He dominates lower levels, but struggles as soon as he’s in the NHL. And it’s not like he’s lost out there. He generally knows where to be and what to do quite well for a guy his age. Yet there’s no offense. That worries me.

Heck, with how desperate we are to generate offense, I’d rather have Yak back in the lineup right now because at least you know he’ll give you 30+ points.

We have $2.2M in cap space right now with Reggie on the LTIR; where do you find the room?

Move Lucic, Manning, Benning, Kassian, etc. And there’s no way St Louis is expecting to move Tank and not have to take back salary
