Come on dude.......

The Flyers didn't give up on him, and have followed all the protocols to get him here. He's not going to shit on them and sour NHL relations. I have no doubt he will give them at least a full year.

I'm just having fun with a worst case scenario, not an actual predictions. But I also don't think Fedotov exercising his UFA rights would be souring any relationship. If he plays well enough through the rest of this year to secure better NHL playing time elsewhere, he'd be wise to take that instead of sit behind Ersson.

This would explain why he decided to sign with CSKA instead of going to Philly after his discharge.

Take a year to get his game back and make some money. If he then feels he's NHL ready he leaves for Philadelphia. If not, he still has the starting position on CSKA.

Is it worth it to play him this year and burn his contract rather than toll it and get the full season
I don't think it works like the this. The toll only lasted for 2023-24, it looks like. UFA on July 1, 2024.

Ivan Fedotov Contract, Cap Hit, Salary and Stats - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

"He has signed 1 contract worth a total value of $1,100,000. He will be a UFA at the end of the 2023-24 season when he is 27 years old.

CONTRACT NOTE: This contract was originally 1 year in length; however, the 2022-23 season was tolled on June 14, 2023 to 2023-24. The expiry status changed from 10.2(c) to UFA due to being 27 years of age at expiry."

Flyers' team list says UFA. This might not be accurate, we'll see what Briere says about his extension!

What a bonkers turn of events, for the system to suddenly gain access to two well-regarded goalie prospects. One right after the other. Feels strangely positive.

This certainly explains Brieres decision not to get Raanta off waivers now.

Do you think they had some idea he was coming over which is why they passed on Raanta?
Raanta cleared waivers on the day CSKA was eliminated from the KHL playoffs, so it's technically possible the Flyers passed on Raanta expecting to be able to bring Fedotov over, but the timing seems too close for them to be able to guarantee they'd have cover for Ersson in Fedotov.

The day CSKA was eliminated was also the trade deadline day (March 8th).

They absolutely still should have made a goalie move before the deadline.

There was a contract in place to allow him to leave once they were eliminated. Maybe the Visa stuff has taken longer than they envisaged?

The timing speaks more to not really knowing when CSKA was going to finish their season. The KHL playoffs are still ongoing.

The day before the deadline, the Flyers couldn't be sure Fedotov was a viable option to come over with more then a handful of games remaining. Even now, they're cutting it close.

Getting him here is great, but they should already have someone other than Sandstrom backing up Ersson.
