Gordon must go. I understand that the Phantoms have to be successful at the gate. Having older non prospects on the roster can help the team get wins and make the POs. However, developing future talent for the main club is the reason that the Phantoms exist. Gordon didn't even use the same system of play that of play that AV was using.
Its understandable that Gordon wants a another shot behind the bench in the NHL. What he does seems to be what he thinks will get him to that goal. So the Brennans, Careys and other older guys get the best minutes. However that doesn't fit for the big club's future.
Fletcher needs to get a grip over what is going on here with his farm club. Get a coach there that will stress development and use a system of play that will make the players in LV interchangeable with those in Philly when they get called up.

He scored at a good rate 5v5 in both his AHL seasons... after being ones of the top scorers his age in the SHL on a bad team who hardly scored... and already having made his national team debut.

5v5:

18-19: 0.43 P/GP
19-20: 0.37 P/GP

He has outscored Phantoms top scorer Carey each of the last two years at 5v5... if he had been given PP time (he ran a PP1 in SHL, was on national team PP2 on debut before World Champs 2 years ago, and now runs a PP1 in Extraliga) his scoring rate would likely be pretty impressive.

Albeit no-one scored on the Phantoms last year. Frost was the only player 0ver 0.65 P/GP.

Now, I doubt he will develop into more than a solid 3rd liner.

But we have seen before with NAK, it is hard to have great AHL stats even if (like in NAKs case) you are one of the best 5v5 players in the league when Scott Gordon refuses to put you on the PP.

Problem is that scoring translates to maybe .20-.25 ppg at the NHL level, or 16-20 ES points over a season.
Now some of that is scoring suppression playing on the Phantoms, Czech league is generally rated above the AHL.
Given his age, how much of a jump can he be expected to make the next couple seasons?

His NHLer right now from Extraliga is 40-45 points...

NAK scored more per game in the NHL than AHL this year. Which is comical.

But that is what happens when you play 4 no-future AHLers on PP1, 4/6 of the top 6 are no-future AHLers, 5/6 of the D are no-future AHLers and both you goalies are no future AHLers.

And refuse to change the PP when it is the worst in the AHL.

And play a different system to the NHL. A comical pond hockey style.

And still suck with a team that on paper should be top 10 in the league.

I understand WHY you need veteran presences on the AHL team.

But Carey, O'Reilly, Welinski, Bigras and Prosser were BAD at 5v5 and most BAD on the PP last year and he just kept prioritising them! They could do no wrong pretty much.

Andreoff, Criscuolo and Wotherspoon - fair - they played well and deserved their spots.

Guys like Fitzgerald and Willman were better than most of the vets.

Seemingly both goalies crapped the bed. Though they did get outplayed as well.

Yeah Novotný had apparently "one of those games". He is .923 this year. The others are sub .88 and it showed

He was absolutely amazing today.

He could have had 6-7 points and would have not been crazy great luck.

Involved in maybe ~11 prime chances.

Right now they have him with 2 assists...

but on the teams 3rd goal he 100% should have an assist.

though on the teams 5th goal - which they have him with an assist right now - the assist is contentious as I think a Dman controlled puck to clear before goal.

So might end up with 2 or 3 assists when sort that out.

Is Kase looking better b/c of team, Czech league being better suited to him, or center being better suited to him, or some combination of the three?

He is the best player on his team... making everyone around him better.

Tbh he was the Phantoms best 5v5 player last season, arguably slightly better than Frost. But he is getting PP time and running the PP at Karlovy Vary.

He also has consistent line-mates... as opposed to them being changed every few games. He spent 60% of the Phantoms season in the bottom six. Sushko-Frost-Kase was fantastic but only played like 5 games together.

You can see he is relishing having more of the puck though at C.

He won my heart with his skating.

Lot of competition for the lineup but I’d love to see him get an extended look over some slow “200 foot” Vigneault obsession.

This is in their own best interest. No AHL season so far. NHL roster is stacked anyway.
Getting top-6 minutes in a European league is so much better than just practicing with the big guys while sitting with the taxi squad eating popcorn.
