Is that a loan deal to a rival club?

Not 100% sure if a loan or actual transfer yet...

they might actually end up playing each other in the 'play-in' for play-offs. Would not be crazy.

#7 play #10
#8 play #9

currently:

Hv71: 8th
Brynäs: 10th

But tbh the clubs are not really big rivals, but ofc are in the same division.

So does this mean Lyon and Stolarz are out, and the Phantoms will roll with the two rookies next season?

He’s probably going to get loaned back to Sweden next year. He signed a contract recently with his Swedish club for next year. The Flyers probably don’t want to risk him going UFA in summer of 2019 when his rights would expire so they’re willing to just burn a year off his ELC for next year just secure his rights.

He would have just signed a 2 year ELC next year if he didn't sign this year, so "burning" a year isn't really that big of a deal. They just have to pay out his signing bonus.

If we waited and signed him next spring, what's the difference? Would we lose his rights potentially? I don't understand the rationale

His rights would have expired June 1st, 2019 if he didn’t sign today. Who knows if he would have turn UFA anyway but the closer you get to that date without a contract the more it makes sense from his standpoint to fully explore his options.

He's had a tough season due to health issues, but it's nice to get him under contract.

Two years and nine months exactly since he was drafted.
