An even worse version of Robert Hagg. Gross pick.

Handled the puck like a grenade when I watched him at the u18s. Don't see much upside, but hopefully I can bump this in a few years and laugh.

Kinda seems like they were dead set on taking a defenseman no matter what and I'm not sure the value was there.

Everyone's taking defensemen this round, so there must be some value.

And with no 3rd rounder, they were basically forced to do it.

How do we feel about taking Ginning over Addison? I haven't seen enough of either.

Not if your org is run well. Has nothing to do with Ginning as a player either.

Um...ok? They've taken a lot of forwards in recent drafts because of the level of defensemen they had. They don't have a 3rd. They took 2 forwards in round 1. They had to take a defensemen

Everything I read makes him sound like Hagg at best.

    Gross pick

All I wanted was for them not to pick a pet rock at #50 and they do exactly that. Reminds me of when they picked Twarynski round 3 in 2016.

He's basically a big player who can skate some. Flashes the odd play. That was my impression at the u18s, but he also got stapled to Boqvist and good d-men and played a ton.

My real impression was he didn't think the play quick with the puck. Not just not having great passing touch but being slow moving it and thinking with it. I thought it was better at the u18s than Hlinka where it was really bad. But not too impressive either. Flyers Swedish scouting has been aces, but this was a pick everyone saw due to his international play.

A more athletic Hagg, I imagine. A 3rd pair guy who probably gets overvalued due to physicality and defense. That's his upside. Looking at our prospect pool, do you even think this kid is better than Morin, Hogberg, Kalynuk? I don't. For a defenseman we have the ability to marinate and grow their potential, they took a pretty mature kid with low potential. I don't get it.......but I do get it knowing the Flyers too. Like I said, Regula is a 6'4 RHD there for the taking, and does the same shit better.

They could have traded down and gotten the same level player, I believe. Or better more likely.

One is an ultra-safe low upside big defender who will play a depth defense-first role.

The other is a small PP QB who is a defensive disaster.

They are at opposite ends of the spectrum. I wouldn't have taken either. I guess Ginning is more likely to be an NHL d-man to me though and could recoup value a la Hagg. But yeah.

After seeing some of the names still on the board, I like this pick a lot less than I originally did.

    Ugh.

If they were dead set on D, and without a 3rd round pick, I would have rather seen them reach for a Dman they really liked with some upside. Now maybe they really liked Ginning, but this just seem like next Dman on the board type of pick.
