If Laczynski and Ratcliffe are available, wonder if that would encourage Hextall to promote NAK, since he wouldn't be leaving the Phantoms in the lurch - of course, would NAK be better off playing in the AHL playoffs than 8 minutes a night in Philly on the 4th line?

anyone follow Ratcliffe and the Storm for the playoffs? I think they play Kitchener, tough matchup but Ratcliffe had a great year and upped his production, a little slow at first but started feeling more comfortable out there and took off

I don't like their chances, to be honest. It would be like a gang of kindergarteners going up against the Justice League.

For a short span it doesn't matter. If he's coming up to play out the NHL season/playoffs that's realistically not going to be more than 20 games or so (and if it is more than that then hands down getting deep NHL playoff run experience is better than being in the AHL). He's also finishing his second year in the AHL so he's at a point where really getting any NHL experience is better than being in the AHL unless he has some holes he needs to work on or he would take a roster spot from a superior player. Isn't it too late to call up AHL guys on non-emergency basis or would he only play out regular season then be blocked from playoffs since he wasn't up before deadline?

For NAK, getting to play even ~10 minutes a night and getting swept in the 1st round would provide more experience than a full Calder Cup run (then again, if we get swept in the 1st round, he could probably do both). Nothing can prepare him better for the next NHL season than to feel what it is like to play in the NHL playoffs.

I am surprised they got the series at 2-2 prior to that... when I asked before the series start how the Storm would do, lots of people chimed in saying no chance for the Storm

And there wasn't a chance. They got rabbit-punched in their souls so hard that the ghosts of their ancestors puked blood. True story.

Ratcliffe is going to be an NHL player right? We're past the point where we're not sure he can make it, it's just a matter of how good he'll be? Are they going to try to turn him into a fourth-line checker in LHV?

I doubt Ratcliffe will be a checking line forward.

Ratcliffe was always a project, big guys tend to take longer to arrive, but he's only 22, he's reportedly up to 225 lbs which means he's strong enough (and heavy enough) to settle in the high danger zone near the net, and has the shot to take advantage of that positioning.
Between injuries and COVID, he basically missed a year of development.
But it's way too early to write him off, he'll have the talent around him for a breakout season at LHV.
