What’s the deal with hockey players anyway? Always mucking and grinding. Who mucks? Who grinds? It’s ridiculous!

And what’s with playoff beards?! If you win you should be rewarded with a clean shave! Am I right?!

And icing is a bad thing? Icing’s great! Sometimes I eat a whole can! Icing should be something that makes a good play better.

Best part of the cake, worst part of hockey - icing.

Scott Wheeler has a good piece on Farabee and York in The Athletic today (subscription required):

Why Flyers prospects Joel Farabee and Cam York don't need a...

Here are a few quotes about York from Brian Wiseman, an assistant at Michigan:

    “He’s extremely productive. It’s just not a high-risk way.”

“There might be Player A that is a plus-five in scoring chances in a game but he’s plus-nine on one end and minus-four on the other end to give him that plus-five. And that’s good, but I think Cam is going to get to plus-five by going plus-six and minus-one in his approach and how he manages his game."

“He’s not about ‘me.’ He’s a refreshing individual to know. He’s a fairly quiet, reserved individual, and his game emulates that in a confident way, not in a passive way by any means.”

Michigan's associate head coach, Bill Muckalt, had this to say about York:

“I hate to give lofty comparisons, but he reminds me a lot of Brian Leetch. Just the way he skates, his poise. He’s got a bright future ahead of him. He can score, he can make plays, and we’re excited to work with him.”

I sometimes cringe when an 18 year old is compared with a hall of famer and top 100 all-time player, but from a size, style, demeanor (and hair color :naughty:) standpoint I can definately see what Muckalt is talking about.

It'll be fun seeing what York can do at the collegiate level. I expect him to do just fine.

Habs fan here and I come in piece. I remember being very upset when the Habs didn't take Giroux in 2006. We ended up taking Fisher who busted bad! Hope York turns out well for you guys and we thank you for not taking Caufield!

    2006:
Habs take Fisher (20) and Flyers take Giroux (22)
2019: Flyers take York (14) and Habs take Caufield (15)

Just an interesting twist after I saw this video recently and reminded me of how I felt in 2006 when you got Giroux after we passed on him...

We all (except for our handful of guys who actually know things) kind of freaked out in the moment because Chuck Fletcher is such a total bottom, and we expected him to get plunged, and when we passed on CC it felt like destiny. Also, his fat assistant, Blech Blah, kind of shat the bed drafting in Minnesota, especially the year prior. But then our handful of guys who actually know things started telling us about York and what a good pick it was, and we calmed down some.

But the real thing that salvaged that moment was that later we were able to snag Bobby Brink, AKA Binksy, who I and @Stizzle believe is going to be a superstar. I don't know jack ****, but Stiz does, so everyone can trust us.

Bottom line, tl;dr - Fire Fletcher.

Taking Giroux over Caufield will be this team’s demise. Mark my words.

Alain will love him if he has some of the Ranger stink that covered Brian Leetch.

That was at a party hosted by a popular website called Broad Street Hockey. They are influential, but unfortunately very uninformed about any player not on the Flyers current roster.

They put out a yearly list ranking our young players and prospects, which is always a total garbage pile. Similarly, the draft coverage provided is also horrific.

Pretty much they whipped everyone into a frenzy over CC. Since the readers are sheep, they bit hard. Even as of last week they were still Tweeting about CC. It is really pathetic.

Especially since those moves also allowed us to land Brink.

These are the same people that lost their shit when the Flyers didn’t take Tolvanen too. So they kind of have their type they get fixated on every year if one presents itself.

Caufield wasn't even my first choice for USNTDP forwards at 11.

Caufield's going to be a good player but I'll take my chances with York + Brink. If only we somehow could have gotten our hands on another mid 2nd round pick to get our hands on Nick Robertson. I don't know how Fletcher could have possibly managed that though.

I can see Cates going pro after this season, he's already 20, so that would make him 21 in the AHL, and I'll bet in the NHL by 22.
It's good to hear he's bigger and stronger, at the WJC-20 I thought he was one of the most impressive players on the US squad.
EP has him at 6'2 190, so I can see him filling out to 210 or so in a couple years - if his skating improves he has middle six potential based on his hockey IQ.

I wouldn’t be surprised, either. Your timeline makes sense.

I think his ceiling is probably bottom 6, but he seems like one of those bottom 6 guys who are quite valuable. Strong, smart, tenacious forechecker, excellent on the wall, 200 ft. game.

exactly. Brink and CC would be quite redundant. I understand the argument of drafting both, but we needed a guy in the system to project in the top 4 especially knowing we are going to lose a top 4 guy in the expansion draft. WE have quite a forward prospect pool, but not too much to write home about on defense.

    #2D in the draft.

Tomasino at almost 2 points/game also, I see, playing against him tonight. He was my top forward at 14, if they wanted to reach.
