Since Nonis is the GM no doubt Reimer will be the starter, and Schenn, Phaneuf, Macarthur will get invites.

As of now the teams that are not in a playoff position and the players available:
Carolina - Staal, Ward, Skinner
Toronto - Phaneuf, Schenn, Macarthur, Reimer
Ottawa - Spezza
Florida - Weiss
New Jersey - Zajac, Brodeur,
Atlanta - Ladd, Little
NY Islanders - Tavares, Moulson, Parenteau

Calgary - Iginla, Bouwmeester, Giordano, Bourque
Dallas - Morrow, Richards, Ribeiro, Robidas, Benn, Daley
Colorado - Duchene,
Columbus - Nash, Brassard, Vermette, Russell, Mason
Edmonton - Hall, Eberle, Gagner, Cogliano, Horcoff,
St. Louis - Stewart, Pietrangelo, Mcdonald
Minnesota - Burns, Bouchard, Brunette

I would say you missed out on Kane, Hamonic, Sutter.

I would say its unlikely that Iginla goes, he rarely does.

Run with the hot goaltender and burn through the WC

TOP 6 is dominant others fight for bottom 6. Not sure about Spezza line either.

I'd rather have Tavares play wing on line 2. He's more of a sniper than a playmaker. Switch Eberle to RW, as that's the position he actually plays. Duchene at C and Tavares on LW.

J. Tavares - M. Duchene - J. Eberle

Toronto contingency should consist of Luke Schenn and between the pipes getting a long look should be James Reimer (might as well take a hot goalie)

I am skeptical. I don't see Schenn making the team. Too many better players available. Didn't they already invite him once, only to have him benched in the end?

Goalie, no idea. If Carolina doesn't make it, Ward should be a lock though.

Ward is so freaking clutch, whether it's the SC playoffs or the World Championship.

These are his stats from the 2 WCs he played in - 10gp 9w 1l 0t 602 min 24 ga 0 so 2.39 gaa .908 sp

Nash and Staal? I would be shocked if any of those guys went.

You say no Nash but then put Richards??

Nash has represented Canada at the Olympics or the WC every year since the lockout with the exception of 2009, the only time he played in the playoffs. Its safe to say Nash accepts an invite

What about Eberle? Wasn't he alredy at the WC last year?

Yes, but MapleLeafs38 already had him, I was just commenting on his list.

Assuming he finishes the season healthy (no guarantee when you're an Oiler), I'd say Eberle is pretty close to a sure thing, yeah.

Can Spezza decline? I'd like to actually have a chance to win ... :sarcasm:

A few quotes from Matheson at The Edmonton Journal:

Will Devan Dubnyk get another call for the world hockey championship?

“I’m pretty sure (Cam) Ward would be the No. 1 if Carolina doesn’t make the playoffs,” said the Edmonton Oilers’ goalie, “but if I was asked, for sure I’d like to go as a second guy.”

Dubnyk, who has answered the call for Hockey Canada before, playing in the Spengler Cup, certainly knows there are other candidates. ... Jose Theodore, Backstrom’s backup in Minnesota is a possibility, too, as is Steve Mason in Columbus. “They could have (James) Reimer from the Leafs,” said Dubnyk, cognizant that Reimer plays in Toronto where Team Canada manager Dave Nonis works as Brian Burke’s right-hand man.

“Last year I think they were waiting for (Carey) Price to add him (as a first or second goalie) if Montreal went out (early) but they didn’t,” said Dubnyk. “They didn’t think the Canadiens would go as far as they did. I went pretty late and was excited, but I hadn’t played a game for a month and just practised. It was a really young team. I felt old over there (25 years old).”

Just so it's on record:

Tambellini did say Nonis had asked about the injured (sprained ankle) Taylor Hall but they gave Hockey Canada the two-thumbs down. “We want Taylor to do his rehab with us and get back skating here before he goes home (for the summer),” said Tambellini. Hall hasn’t played in a month, and needs another four weeks of treatment.

Tambellini hopes they ask Oilers’ winger Jordan Eberle, who went into the Canucks’ game with 41 points in only 65 games. He played four games in last year’s tournament when Ryan Smyth and Steve Stamkos got hurt.

So there you go.

Hopefully Reimer goes, it would give us at least 1 hot goalie, not to mention there are some good defensemen that are available now. Dion has always played well for Team Canada, so he could be good.

Buffalo and New York both only need one more win to clinch, so Carolina looks like they're in some deep water, and hopefully Ward goes if they don't make it, as well as some other good Canes.

Kadri for the sole reason that you can put him as the 13th forward, and use him on the PP, or if you need some extra firepower. Also for shootouts.
