One of the few bright spots this season:

Dahlin is ridiculously good as an 18 year old rookie defenseman. Unreal stickhandler too, I love how much he incorporates head fakes into his stickhandling. He's Datsyuk-ian. Once his shot and strength improve he'll be uncontainable. He's a high school senior and is this good already.

Generational talent.

Florida wants a shake up.

To fla:
Ristolainen
Our first pick in 2019 (not top 2)
Mittelstadt

To buf:
Yandle
Trocheck
Huberdeau

Who says no? I think for buf, I say yes.

I'm pretty sure that their idea of a major shakeup is sign Bob + sign Panarin + coaching change. They have the cap to make it work, but probably sell off someone like Reimer to give them even more flexibility.

If Botterill pulls that off he's going to jail for life.

I have to be close-ish.

Yandle Huberdeau for risto mitts should be decently balanced

The 5th pick would ideally be Turcotte or krebs or cozens, so basically paying that pick for a guy of similar potential, just fully deceloped

That's a shit load of cap to take on. Buffalo gets two of Florida's top 5 players. This would represent a huge shift in strategic direction for Florida.

I think Buffalo takes the deal and Florida balks.

Read chatter out of Edmonton yesterday that Nugent Hopkins may be on the out and Risto might be a suitable trade target.

This would be the best thing that could happen to this team other than reversing the ROR trade.
Kid just scored a hatty in the middle of a career season and they can't wait to get rid of him? Weird...but then again, Edmonton.

The Florida GM is busy, but his secretary takes the message, and even she hangs up laughing uncontrollably.

We literally move a worse asset for a better asset with each piece.

Eh, i disagree.

Yandles contract is pretty hefty. You yourself have been pimping the 3-7 of this draft for months.

We’re trading youth that’s still moldable for guys further along and more established.

I’m not 100% sure I’d do that trade btw, the risk of 100% on buffalos side. We give all the futures for older guys on bigger contracts with term.

It’s a swing for the fences type of move.

Of course, if you’re slowly feeling like this kind of move is the only option to stop us from becoming the Tavares-era islanders and watching Jack leave in 7 years...

It’s tough. I’ll revisit this in June and see if I still think it’s a good idea.

Should you swing for the fences when you may not actually be in the ballpark?

Wait, the risk is on the team getting the established 70 point NHL center with a good 2 way game, established 1st line LW, and established offensive defenseman, and not the team getting the center prospect with a sub-PPG D+1 season followed by a year of being utterly overwhelmed at the NHL level, whose career path is far closer to Tyson Jost's than the Keller/Connor mold, a draft pick, and a defenseman with god-awful underlying metrics under the assumption that shaving 2 minutes per game off his special teams time would change a -42 with brainfart after brainfart into a legit top 4 guy?

If the trade doesn’t work for Florida (doubtful. Risto has talents that aren’t used fully here. Mittelstadt is young, and a top 5 pick this year is very valuable), the worst part they’re tied to is risto for 3 years at 5.4 million.

Trochecks had a few major injuries, and a decent deal with what would be 3 years left.

Yandle is a giant risk at 6.35, at his age, for 4 more years.

Huberdeau is a 60 point winger at 6 million for 4 more years.

Yeah, if it blows up in our face, we’re screwed for a long time. If it blows up for Florida, they atleast had a top 5 pick to hit on.

Since when I originally posted my reasoning behind this and it was deleted all I am going to say now is, I think it is not impossible that Eichel is traded in the off-season.
He moved the 2nd best player from last season to bring in the two worst ones on the roster this season so I d rather not let him touch any quality pieces to turn them into garbage and would ifs ...

It’s ambiguous how much the Pegulas intervene on the team, but trading Jack Eichel would be something I see them blocking if he didn’t ask for it.

If we're trading Eichel, it will be because of his contract and locker room issues, we have seen that Botts doesn't do well moving those type of players. Until we can find a quality coach, I'm of the opinion that your top players stay here. That includes Risto. If these top players continue to falter, then move them. I want to see what these guys can do when they have a supporting cast that can carry their own weight. Make the necessary changes after where you see fit.

But "blowing up" is a lot more likely for Tyson Jost and a draft pick that could be 5,6,7,8, with an ouside chance at top 3, than it is for literal established top 6 NHLers along with a high-producing offensive specialist on the back end. It literally just is. Like, that's what these players are currently.

Which is why I questioned your "100% of the risk is on Buffalo" stance.

Trading Risto for negotiating rights seems like a poor use of an asset.
Especially given that Fox has already navigated himself away from two playoff teams...it's silly to think that he's going to decide to sign with us in free agency when he can pick anywhere to play that he wants.

If we trade another star player for locker room issue I will lead the pitch forks!!!

At this point that idea at all makes me upset.
