and NJ does this why? Wood is a very solid piece on a nice deal. McCabe & 3rd doesn't offer a ton of value tbh. I want Josh Anderson too but realize its a pipedream.

dipping into UFA for a guy like Tanev or Acciari is probably more feasible if looking for depth F options with some jam.

still like the Donskoi option too.
If McCabe can bounce back he can certainly fill a Top 4 LHD role which the Devils need. McCabe was really solid 2017/18. Last year he battled injuries and he’s still hitting his prime.

What is the salary of this lineup?
You would have to take a million away from Skinner and add it to Karlsson. Why does Minnesota do that deal? Might have to be Nylander and McCabe for Brodin+ a pick.

Comments:
Do right by Callahan and buy him out
Waive Okposo
Give me someone with speed and thump in the Okposo spot.
Swap Olo and Skinner
Swap Mitts and Cirelli
Swap Bogo and Nelson
Find a trade partner to dump scandella for pick(s)

Nice work!

It's actually kind of crazy how after this upcoming season, we will only have 4 skaters and 1 goalie under contract. Eichel, Okposo, Dahlin, Risto, and Hutton.

If Gronborg is coach I could see mutual interest with Karlsson. Karlsson is not perfect but him and Dahlin would be fun to watch and really change the back end.

I would not be interested in the Sabres becoming "Team Sweden" (i.e. 10 plus Swedish guys on the roster) But if the idea of Gronborg could attract a couple top end Swedish players then that would be a great bonus.

I like it...looks pretty darn good...Although I'd separate Dahlin and Karlsson...Having two elite d-men on different lines would be awesome....But you can out them together on the #1 PP unit if you want

Year 3 of this...
He fell off towards the end before getting hurt, but for most of the year I thought he was far and away the most improved player on the team. Then again, I thought he performed like one of the worst D in the NHL the year before...

Is Brodin genuinely available? And for just Nylander? I'd driving Nylander to Minneapolis myself for that trade. He's everything our defense needs. He's the kind of player I'd trade Risto 1-for-1 for if we're set on trading him.

Then came the salary cap....this is undoable.

Line 1 $24M
Line 2 $6 M
Line 3 $8M
Bottom group $15M
Forward $53M

D1 10M
D2 $7.5M
D3 $2M
D4 $9.1m
G $5M
D/G $ 33.6M

That’s $86.6M + buried salary and dead space.

On top if that this team would not have space to sign their younger players in dahlin, Pilut, Olifsson, Reinhart, Mitts, and Cirelli. Montour also needs to resign in 20.

Switch Mccabe and scandella
Include Mccabe in deal for Brodin

Can’t take An extra $5M salary back and try to sign Zkatksdon.

I have serious questions on Karlsson on a long term contract.

Is around $89M prior to any waivers, buyouts, LTIR, and Sobotka’s salary off the books. Very doable.

Have you forgotten who do we have the GM is?)) Rather, it'll trade Risto for magic beans, but of course it looks good.

Still holding out for a couple of quality depth forwards (Donskoi, Tanev) in UFA, plus some buy-low players who might not be expensive to add (Miikka Salomaki, Tomas Nosek, Dmitrij Jaskin).

UFA's of course would be having Skinner signed at a reasonable rate. Hayes I've expressed my position before - mostly pro, afraid of terms, may wind up as W later.

Has anyone done a dive on Nyquist's metrics? He's 30 and likely going to be in decline, but if they could get him at his current price and maybe with an eye on his metrics. I'm not sure... I was always underwhelmed watching him in Detroit.

IF Karlsson decided he would come to Buffalo, his cap hit would be $11 million minimum. Probably $12 million to be honest.

But he doesn't want to play here, so.

@Jame

I've liked everything I've seen out of Cirelli the past two years. You've obviously seen more of him, though.

Is he good enough to be a legitimate 2C on a team he'd be a featured piece on?

In other words, how much of Cirelli's successes can be attributed to being part of the NHL's best offense, and can he replicate them as the 2C here given the present makeup of the team?

Short answer: Yes

I’m not a fan of obsolete terms like 2C. I think he’d come in and get a good dose of ES minutes with heavy PK usage. He put up ~20/40 with pretty much no PP time.

And it’s not like Cirelli was fed premier linemates or ice in Tampa.

I think at a minimum he replaces 75% of what we lost in ROR.

I’m not someone who just wants to get rid of Risto... but Cirelli checks all the boxes for what I’d be looking for in a trade...

Olofsson-Eichel-Xxxxx
Xxxxx-Cirelli-Reinhart
Xxxxx-Mitts-Xxxxx
Xxxxx-Larsson-Xxxxx

That’s a long term frame we can build upon...

  • Part of the reason you hire Gronborg is the Swedish connection. Karlsson might come to play for him.
