So if we aren’t looking for a long term fix, why is signing one of Granlund/Haula/Soderberg for < 1/2 the cost for Monahan without trading any assets a problem?

You’re changing your criteria to conform to your assertion that we should trade ADA for Monahan.

The simple fact is that ADA, with or without Buch, going to Calgary for Hanifan and Monahan or Lindholm has us trading players of higher value for inferior players with higher salaries. There’s not a universe outside of HF where this makes sense.

Avery, I never said that we should trade ADA for monahan. Im not changing any criteria around. Gorton needs to think about all angles and just because you dont want to look at what hes looking to do from a different view bc its different than your assessment doesnt mean its wrong either. Im simply trying to have you understand the other view point beyond your own, which is apparently gortons line of thinking. Not mine. I trust gorton to do whats best for the team.

I was speaking about youre previous post about why the trade for monahan or lindholm. Bc it would be great by setting us up for a #2 center for years to come. 3-4 years is a perfect fit for our time line.
ex 2
Yest signing one those guys is okay for this year but still need a long term solution at #2 center. Those guys are at best a #3 center. Chytl like i said has proven incapable of the #2 line center role or really any center role on this team THUS FAR.
ex 3
Also what makes you think that ADA has this tremendous value? While we all like ADA and his ability to put points up. Lets not forget how horrible his defense is. Teams like having defenseman who can play defense while putting up points. Monahan is at his best a 1st line center, at his worst a 2nd line center, same as lindholm. Not really sure what makes you think theyre value is poor?

Rather play DeAngelo at LD then hanifin to be honest. He is Brady skjei all over again. Maybe a little better but they both definitely bought their brains and hockey sense at the same store while their size speed and physical acumen is fit for a first pair defender. Pass all day long injuries happen, trades come up, sometimes players want out for various reasons. I wouldn’t be too hasty with a DeAngelo decision yet considering his ability to be a great puck distributer in NY and how low the trade market is due to corona

Again, if you re read my posts i am not suggesting that we make the trade at all. Im simply trying to make you see a different angle of what gorton may be trying to do and what his view point may be.

I said i would be cool with trying ADA on the LD and seeing how that goes, along with giving strome another 1 year deal. But again we still have no answer at our #2 center spot next season. and could be revisiting this trade idea with ADA bc he cant play defense and you cant pay a 3rd pairing guy 5m aav. And yes he is the 3rd pairing dman power play specialist. Trouba and Fox are better than him.

I think the issue with that is ‘at what number?’, which is exactly what FO office is waiting to learn. They aren’t planning around a $5 million Strome, maybe not even a $4.5 million Strome. Certainly not while a similarly-qualified stand-in could be had at millions less and no assets.

It really doesnt matter the cost even if its 5.5 and less than a 2 year deal he never reaches the end of that contract here anyway. As long as the contract isnt more than 2 years it really doesn't matter. Besides, i think they end up with around the same deal Deangelo got, that won't bother us. I had 10 mill penciled in for the both of them, if its less than that wonderful, a little more, who cares, we have space. Its not like the money is coming out or yours or my pockets. There is the possibility that Strome is just figuring things out and fixes some errors in his game, so why not give him a little more time? We aren't a cup favorite yet anyway, we have a year or two to figure things out and he isn't blocking anyone.

So now packaging overvalued, mediocre players with our futures to get out of contracts we never should have signed is the new norm. Cool...cool. I guess we’ve learned nothing from the past decade. Dan who? Marc who?

I'm not sticking up for this kid but you have any clue as to what goes on in life any fraternity initiation?
It's crazy how fragile people are these days but I guess they just don't make men like they used to..
People join frats out of choice and typically know what they're getting into when it comes to stuff like hazing. What does that have to do with years of mental and physical abuse of a disabled child who clearly did not want that to happen to them???

I'd rather watch this game than game 4 2014 final. This is a "I remember where I was" game.

I was at the Shannon Rose pub with my fiancé in NJ in a nice little corner of the bar with a great view of a tv that was like our own private screen. I remember convincing her to drive home by explaining that it was my duty to drink one beer for each of Mika’s goals, plus one to celebrate the win. I’ll always remember that game. It’s so vivid, exactly where we were sitting, what we were wearing, what we ate . And she’s become such a big fan in the (shortened) season thats she’s been watching that she was able to fully enjoy it. Great night.

What are you talking about? Short contracts with our cap space to young players arent an issue. This process we are going through will have him paid as he should be, give or take $500,000-750,000. You either move him at a deadline or let his contract run out, letting him walk now gets you nothing. Hes only 27, not some over the hill guy with injury issues. He's the perfect stop gap. Why would we package him with anything that's dumb. Also, as I've said before its silly to discuss because its gonna happen, we will start the season with Ryan Strome.

I dont think its as easy to move $5 million contracts as you think, whether or not said player is entirely reliant on another player for any significant level of success.
