Jagr would be a nice add to the team for a year. For those that like toughness Iginla is also still out there and he's a decent bottom line player as well. Not as good defensively as Jagr though.

You must be hella ripped from moving the goal posts as often as you do.

"He's nothing but a power play specialist"
*Here's his very good 5v5 production from last season*

"Fine, but he's too slow and can't backcheck"

Would it interest you to know that Jagr was third on the team in relative goals allowed per 60, and 1st on the team in relative shot attempts allowed per 60 last year on Florida? Doesn't really sound like a guy who can't backcheck to me. Sounds a lot more like a guy who controls the **** out of play when he's on the ice. Third in relative goals for per 60. Second in relative shot attempts for per 60.

You don't put up numbers like that over an entire season if "someone else is doing your backchecking for you" or if you're "not that great defensively"

Eagerly awaiting your next failed attempt. He was a +2 last year. That's probably your next argument. Can't wait for it!

It's not like they can't pair him with grabner or fast or any other "defensively responsible" forward to make up for these so called short comings.

I agree with you. 3rd line, 1PP and rest him throughout the season.

Agreed.

Jagr would be a very nice addition at this point. Low risk. Very high upside.

I'd be in on Jagr absolutely. Or even Vanek who could play in the Joel Ward/Brouwer on the Capitals role on the PP which would make our PP unit pretty awesome.

I think we are a better team. With an upgraded defense we should not have to score 5+ goals every game to win.

They upgraded D but in more of a way where they most likely be more a 5 or 6 to 4 or 4 team. More exciting, IMO. Things actually happen and fewer 2-1 wins.

The upgraded defense, if it's used properly, will out-weigh the depleted center depth (if it remains as it is now)

...Don't think you really have to worry about the defense, and the defense is not going to make up for the lack-luster Center depth, you can't just disguise the lack of Center depth by making up for it on the back-end. The D was to address the help Hank desperately needs, adding more mobility, balancing Skjei's skill-set out with a guy like Smith, and of course the PP with Shatty and DeAngelo = more resting time for McD.

i think the center depth..while definitely not great..isnt nearly as bad as some people make it out to be.

I dont think its any different than what Nashville rode to the SCF...and I think the defense is comparable...

Nashville was deeper at both C and D. Hayes as a 2C scares me. And if the Rangers make the move to put Miller as the 3C there will be a lot of question marks around that as well.

Hayes as 2C this year, won't even bother watching the Rangers play. I'm just going to watch CGY games this year instead.

The funny thing about Jagr being called a powerplay specialist is he hasn't actually had good production on the PP in 5 years. If anything he's an "even strength specialist" where he's produced tremendously. But - old. slow. bad.

I think the issues are Jagr wants a decent amount of money for a 1 year contract and he runs out of gas by March..

11 Points in 20 March/April games last year.

20 Points in 20 March/April games the year before.

18 Points in 19 March/April games the year before that.

17 Points in 22 March/April games the year before that.

Where is the running out of gas? Because he had one bad playoff run in Boston five years ago where he scored 0 goals on 58 shots?

It's a complete myth.

Maybe it was just the few games I've seen him towards the end of the year last season that are skewing my statement. For the record, I never said he was bad and I said I'd sign Jagr to be a depth option

Did his TOI drop during those periods?
