Are we sure there is no theme to these thread titles? :help:

Where are all the trades folks. We need trades. Summer is boring.

As we see with the Stepan being traded essentially for Shattenkirk, every team is in a situation where trading players means strengthening one part of your team at the expense of another.

I have a lot of trepidation about the state of the C group at this moment.

Just checking if we traded Holden for Bozak yet.

No? Ok. Back to staring at the wall.

Fair value would be Holden for Komarov. But I think the Rangers will wait till training camp and the first 15-20 games before moving a defenseman out.

On another note.

No one seems to have Puempel penciled in as a top 12 option. Maybe he sticks as a bottom 6 option, but not sure if he can contribute on special teams.

Maybe Holden + Puempel to a team that needs NHL bodies for a Center that can step in right away.

Looking at the Metro... almost all of the teams have depth issues... CAR seems to be pretty solid depth wise but not talent wise up front.

Expansion really did a number this year.

Puempel is probably gonna be the 13th forward but fill in for Fast at the start of the season while he continues to recover from his surgery

Puempel is probably gonna be the 13th forward but fill in for Fast at the start of the season while he continues to recover from his surgery

We're going to need two more forwards to make that true.

Zibanejad, Zuccarello, Hayes, Kreider, Vesey, Miller, Nash, Buchnevich, Grabner, Desharnais

That's 10. Fast and Puempel make 12.

In fact, with Fast out, there really needs to be 2 more forwards around the team. Carey, Schneider and Catenacci all have brief call-up experience.

There are a few bottom-6 type UFAs still out there: Cramarossa, Chiasson, King, Winnik, White, Korpikoski. And a few middle-6 kind of players: Stafford, Vanek, Jagr. The problem with most of those players is that their skating isn't all that good (I don't know much about Cramarossa or Ryan White).

I would expect to see at least one more player signed towards the end of the month or in August.

There's a chance that Tkachyov kid comes over and claims a spot.

Also, one T. Glass seems to be looking for a job.

Fellas...this is not unexpected the lack of anything going on. Once the July 1 festivities were over, it was pretty obvious, at least to me it was, that JG was going to sit tight till around training camp and see where things were at with our boys and also see what other teams were going to do after they evaluate their squads.

I don't think we are in bad shape at all even with the center situation not totally handled. Worst comes to worst, we go with what we got and considering the huge upgrades we made on the back end, so long as Hank plays up to his capabilities and the rest of the offense does their thing, we'll be just fine for the beginning of the regular season and be one of the better teams in the East.

Team is better than it was last year at this time IMO and we have quite a bit of upside with some of these new additions, so I'm going to go back to watch paint dry for the next few months and I suggest the same for my fellow goombas in here who are expecting anything of note to occur as there is nothing on the horizon that is going to move the needle at least here in Ranger land for the time being.

Don't even suggest such a thing. If Brooks reads this there will be a headline tomorrow.
"Rangers are in the market for a veteran forward and Glass could be the answer"

Yeah I was more going with the idea that with a full roster Puempel is probably that 13th/fill in guy. Team has familiarity with him, etc

Not sure what they do with the rest of the roster between now and camp. Doubt they see anyone in Hartford who can make a permanent leap but who knows

Its Holden, Graves & a 2nd round pick for Brass. :)

Nicky my man, I'd love for Brass to come back but that's a severely steep price you have laid out to get him back in a Ranger uniform.

Forget the Graves part of the equation, Holden and a 2nd round pick would be more than enough IMO. I don't get the impression Ottawa is all the enamored with Brass and so if we really wanted him back which I kind of doubt, JG wouldn't have to pay as much as you laid out.

Don't you know, the only team Brass plays well for is for us. No reason for us to overpay for him...

Brassard is coming off a shoulder injury (again)

The Rangers sold high and got the most for him. He isn't coming back

I think Ottawa fans would say that was a cheap offer. They gave us Zib and a 2nd. We would be giving back a mid level prospect (we already have 3 LH dmen) a 2nd and a guy (Holden) half the fans wanted benched.
I think its unlikely but it would be cool! :D

Just because we schiestered them the first time doesn't mean we need to pay for it and take it up the keister like Ottawa did...lol.

It aint happening...Brassgod coming back home but it's a nice thought...:)

That offer is very light. We would be nuts not to do it but Ottawa wouldn't.

47 contracts signed right now
2 of them (Chytil + ?) will likely slide
45 contracts

Remaining Signings
  • Zib (46 contracts) - done before arbitration
  • One of Toninato or Kerfoot (47 contracts) - done after August 15
  • Will Butcher (48 contracts) - done after August 15
  • Tkachyov (49 contracts) - done after camp if he impresses

Then it is possible to move out a D on the NYR and add some fwd depth vet maybe? We will likely have a PTO or two as well? (Still 49)

da cuse
imo, center is the lone issue right now with this team. no hurry though.

JG has added shatty and ADA plus resigned smith. the D is done. sure looks like holden is the odd man out depending on bereglzov ADA and pionk and how they do in camp. im sure JG keeps his powder dry and waits till after camp to so something.

that something seems to be either break camp with andersson or perhaps slot JTM in as the 2 or 3C or if not those 2, add a centerman via a trade or a post camp waiver opportunity. he's got options.

which ever it is, this team has addressed its main issues and perhaps created another one at this point.

remove girardi. check

improve/stabilize/balance the defense. check.

improve the pp point. check.

so the D looks real good right now. JG just needs to see how the middle of the ice plays out.

im still saying andersson break camp with us and gets a legit chance to stick.
