I don’t think Suzuki is a top line center. He’s a 2nd line center. Danault is a third line center.
Kotkaniemi is probably a 2nd line center. Poehling is a 3rd line center.

we probably have to trade two of them.

Anybody willing to trade a 1st line C for a 2nd line C, a 3rd line C and a 1st round pick? Does that sound like a plausible scenario?

Aho for Suzuki/Kotkaniemi, Poehling/Danault and a 2021 1st round pick, lottery protected?

That leaves Montreal with this C-line:

Aho
Suzuki/Kotkaniemi
Danault/Poehling
Evans

Potential Wingers in the system over the next two or three years:

LW: Domi, Tatar

RW: Gallagher, Armia, Caufield, Ylonen

LW/RW: Drouin, Lehkonen, Byron, Weal

I'd make that trade, throw a boat load of cash at Hall and try to re-sign Kovalchuk:

Hall - Aho - Gallagher (later, Caufield)
Tatar - Suzuki/Kotkaniemi - Kovalchuk (later, Gallagher)
Domi - Danault/Poehling - Drouin
Lehkonen - Evans - Armia
Byron (rotate him throughout the lineup to keep him playing)

Was that from practice, or what you'd like to see?

I'd probably swap Armi and Domi, and have Daupgin in Hudon's spot, if I'm trying to win.

But since I want to lose I'd actually have it totally different...

Tatar Danault Gallagher
Lehkonen/Byron Suzuki Domi
Drouin Kotkaniemi Armia
Byron/Lehkonen Dauphin Evan's

Evan's might supplant Lehkonen and Byron in the top 6.

I do like what you did having KK between Drouin and Domi. Would be great to KK play with two offensive players. But, he may need the defensive support.

I wouldn't put Ouellet ahead of Chiarot. Also, Ouellet had some good chemistry with Fleury in Laval when they played together. So I would put those two together, hoping that chemistry will be beneficial as third pair.

I always liked the Drouin - Kotkaniemi - Armia line for just that reason. Army's a great back-checker.

Yes, if you see the rest of my post I have a 3rd line of Drouin-KK-Armia.

But at some point hopefully Drouin, Domi and KK will progress defensively enough that they could potentially be a line. That time isn't now, imo.

Tatar - Danault - Gallagher
Drouin - Suzuki - Armia
Lehkonen - Domi - Byron
Poeling - Kotkaniemi - Evans

Chiarot - Weber
Kulak - Petry
Mete - Juulsen

I’d run with this - maybe swap Drouin and Lehkonen depending on the situation. I don’t mind KK at 4C considering the situation. I still think this gives the kids an idea of what playoff hockey is like even if they don’t get a ton of ice time.

Have Drouin Suzuki Domi or Drouin Domi Suzuki ever been tried? That could be an interesting 2nd line.

But then Evan's or KK get stuck with Lehk and Armia. Byron and Armia on opposite wings is an eye sore. Perhaps Evan's could get a shot with KK and Armia.

Lehkonen Domi Byron were brutal together. But you can't have everything with this roster.

That 4th line has to earn the spots, nothing guaranteed yet. They have to beat out Hudon,Weal,Weise and don't see that happening unless they somehow have taken some pretty big steps.

FORWARDS
Tatar - Danault - Gallagher
Drouin - Suzuki - Armia
Byron - Kotkaniemi - Lehkonen
Weise - Weal - Evans
Hudon - Poehling - Dauphin/Belzile
DEFENSEMEN
Chiarot - Folin
Mete - Petry
Olofsson - Fleury
Brook - Juulsen

Where's Kulak?

Does CH really have Evan's on the wing and Weal st center, or is that a typo?
