Never saw him with Helm, Danko, Robertson, Hudson, and Manuel but saw him dozens of times in Toronto bars. A big, jovial lover of life, a great story teller, and one of the original rock and rollers. I can still see him going up to the mike and saying, "Keep drinking. The more you drink the better we sound." Actually his bands were always top notch. A rock legend through and through.

Born in the US but a true Canadian in many ways and lived most of his life in Ontario. Mentor to The Band and many others. He is also a rare case of being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and surviving back in 2003. RIP
