Doesn't want to come back and play and ice the puck, turn it over, and take stupid penalties.

Jim Nill read this news in an article because Roman Polak is scared to inform him over the phone.

As expected, Polak and Sekera weren't huge fans of swapping in and out of the lineup every game no matter how they played.

Polak said, “Sometimes, I was sitting on the bench asking myself, ‘What am I doing here? I don’t want to be here.'”

Does this help or hurt the salary cap for this season? I know he was a UFA for next year (actually, probably now in a regular season) and the Stars probably weren't going to renew him at his age.

Sekera is another story. My guess would be that Nill would have brought him back, and still may, unless he is that discontented with the no. 6 or 7 role.

Either way, it is always a bit disheartening to see any unhappiness in Starsland.

I don’t think anyone expected him to return next season anyway so it doesn’t do anything with next year’s cap. His contract was only for this season.

No idea about Sekera. He might need a raise and that could price him out of Dallas.

If Harley is ready to make the jump we don’t need Sekera. Heiskanen/Klingberg/Lindell/Johns/Oleksiak/Harley/Fedun

I wonder if he'd get his name on the cup if Dallas was to win it. He's played enough games to be eligable, but quitting on a team (albeit in a pandemic) should likely disqualify you.

Anyways, I consider this good news.

One would have to assume now that they just may write this off..bringing him back over ...what are you going to get from him? Have Fedun,Bayreuther and Cecchoni ready to go. Different players to Polak who was really just a PK specialist..he has next to no puck skills.

Not a big loss considering Johns has provided that since his return.

Honka coming back would be straight up funny:laugh:

If we had anyone but Bowness, honestly it would probably be the best shot Honka would get. Sheltered on the bottom pairing with a guy who's good enough defensively and won't get in his way. But Bowness probably wouldn't let him use any of his offense or creativity.

Honka doesn't want to be in Dallas though so it's all a moot point.

We did, we had Monty and he gave Honka every opportunity to earn a spot. But Honka's offense didn't translate to the NHL (except 3v3), and his (lack of) defense demanded constant sheltering.

The playoffs is not the time to break in a sheltered bottom pair Dman.

I don’t disagree. I think he might get one last chance (not in Dallas) before his NHL career is over.

Or he can choose to just stay in Finland.

I mean pair him with Heiskanen so he has the best shelter available :naughty:

And just pray they don't end having to get in any board or net front battles ? Tbh tho I would've liked to see them get some ice time together but that's a preseason/early season thing lol. Either way Honka is never playing another game as a Dallas Star so

Hahaa every shift would be just hoping that they can just keep possession of the puck at 100% with all that skating ability.
