48 saves on 50 shots is definitely a good game.
Having said that, Jonas Johansson was good, too, 35/37. And good for him for bouncing back in the shootout after the first two went in.
So as promised here are my thoughts. Man I love going to exciting games like that, even if they start super slow. So it was a goalie duel through and through, Kulbakov being the better of the two tonight. Johansson did just about as much as you could ask for though, despite a pretty weak 2nd goal as well as a weak one in the shootout. I still don't think he has a future in the NHL. This team is already missing Redmond's scoring touch. Tennyson missed the net several times while being slotted into Redmond's spot on the 1st PP unit, Redmond doesn't miss those.
Defense was sloppy, giving up a lot of odd-man rushes early in the game, thankfully Utica wasn't able to make any of them count. None of them really stood out in a good way, besides Hickey breaking up a 2-on-1 and Tenny getting the tying goal late.
The forward line of Olofsson-Asplund-O'Regan is extremely potent, they had many chances throughout the night, and accounted for the first goal they scored. On the topic of O'Regan, he's had a fantastic season for the Amerks so far and might just have a future in Buffalo yet. Asplund was snake bitten tonight, missing on a lot of really good chances including a miss on a wide open net in OT which had him smashing his stick against the glass in frustration. Nylander heard his shot totals were lacking and decided to shoot a lot more tonight, too bad most of his shots were from low danger areas after entering the zone and nobody was every around to put in a rebound.
Olofsson is a by the book definition of a sniper, he scores more than he doesn't in the shootout. CJ Smith had a rough night overall. A lot of things didn't go his way, whether it was fanning on a wide open shot from the circle or falling down on a clean breakaway in OT, thankfully he made up for it with a goal in the shootout.
The Amerks recorded 50 shots on goal which makes it the 2nd game in the last 3 that they've recorded at least 50. They now sit pretty comfortably on top of the North division standings, Syracuse and Utica are both 4 points back.
Having gone back to look at it again I have to agree. It wasn't as easy to tell since I only caught it out of the corner of my eye at the arena and they didn't show a replay of it on the scoreboard.
If he didn't fall in OT that was the game right there. With how fast he skates and the ****ty ice it's no surprise. The one thing about CJ and even Danny O'Regan are that they don't take nights or shifts off. Consistent game to game in working hard. O'Regan has 7 goals in his last 11 games. Pretty impressive!
Fun times in the old barn last night getting a win. If only ever Friday could be that way - but win in regulation.
It's great to see O'regan turning it on a bit as we may need him in Rochester next year with potential graduations for smith, ollofsson, and nyalnder. It'd be nice if he hit a next level and put himself into call up territory next year (even though he's already plenty seasoned obviously).
The White hot Lord Alfred Tennyson has taken his talents to Syracuse tonight....

Two wins and an OT loss in the last 3 games. 5 of 6 points.
Boom. Love it!
You guys need some cheering up. Here's Goalofsson ending it in the way only he knows how to.
Need to give some love to Veilleux for the shorty!!
Amerks were down 2-0 but never quit on the game and won 3-2. Great game and the much needed win.
Amerks showing the resilience their parent club sorely lacks currently....

Nice. That second right dropped him...
Longer adjustment period than i expected but Asplund is starting to play some really strong hockey.
Smith has a goal tonight and could have 2 more. It's a joke if he's not in the Sabres lineup Tuesday imo.
about 5 minutes left....

CJ scores again. He's had three breakaways tonight. Guy is ****ing relentless.
edit: apparently it was tipped by Cornel, so CJ has the assist instead.
Welp, now he got the empty netter. Up to 41 points in 41 games. Stud.
Smith creating all night long, crafty player. 2G 1A.
Also like Nylander.
