Rivalry with Minni?

  1. After being in Minnesota last weekend and talking to some people at the game, they don't think there is a rivalry with us. I didn't feel that way either. They hate Dallas not Winnipeg. I would think we would hate Phoenix more than Minni.

I give it until the first Minnnesota home game when half to 2/3 of the fans are Jets fans.

I don't think there is a rivalry yet, but the seeds are there.
I think there will be, especially as we continue to invade their building.

No rush, we'll hate each other.

It's too damn polite and respectful. Something has to happen for it to be a rivalry. I thought Bogosians CLEAN hit on PMB in 2011 would've done it, but no.

They remember it. They hate Bogo for it.
I found Yeo's comment that we artificially enhance the sound to be disrespectful.
    Little things will add up.

We've played what, 2 regular season games against each other? And both games were incredibly exciting and filled with disdain. That was 2 years ago though, at the time the internet was exploding on both sides on how awesome the rivalry between us will be when realignment happens, but if nothing happens in 2 years then it's more likely to regress than grow. Give it a few meaningful games, it'll happen.

Yes they do. I saw someone comment in one of their GDTs last week that Bogo should be able to open up a Wild roster spot.

Hmmm break out the Bogosian jerseys?

Or a big poster with "it was clean" and a picture of the hit.

Only problem is Minni folks are nice people, and well 'Tobans are pretty friendly too.

One might develop but it might be more good natured, not a real hate based one.

Right now I have a hard time having a hate on for Minny. I don't think it is possible to ever come anywhere near my hate for the Leafs or Oilers. But rivalries happen naturally over time. We will get a hate on sooner or later with some of our division rivals, but it will be the result of on ice incidents especially in the playoffs. It can't be artificially created.

It may very well change sometime in the future, but I see no rivalry what so ever.

All it is now, is the media trying to manufacture hype.

There are still tickets available for both games in St. Paul.

There isn't yet, but there will be. Similar cities and what not. I think its a rivalry that will be left on the ice.

I agree with this. My closest friend is in Minny and we have been intensely competitive with each other our whole lives. This will be just another opportunity for bragging rights on one side or the other. I am sure there are countless other personal examples, which all add up.
It's probably bad timing to bring up the Bombers, but this strikes me as a potential Banjo Bowl-type rivalry. Sure, tempers flare at times and we love to hate them, but secretly know we're cut from the same cloth.

    Soapbox?

It is not the media trying to manufacture it, it was (and is) the couple thousand Jets fans that stream down the I94 and take over downtown St. Paul before and during the games that are lighting it up.

And the games have been great too. And our players with Minnesota connections have talked about it heating up.

  18. I totally agree. Why hate each other? Cause we are close by distance? Same division? Who cares? I will always hate the Yotes. I love going to Minni. The people are great. Makes no sense for a rivalry. The only thing I don't like is their Christmas colors jerseys. But that's not the fans fault.

    Rivalry =/= hate

Rivalry is for local pride, superiority, bragging rights. Same reason we have the Banjo Bowl.

I don't think, and really hope there isn't any negative rivalry, but more of a competitive rivalry due to our proximity and division.

I think there are lots of Winnipeggers that go down to Minneapolis from time to time, and lots of Winnipeggers that are Vikings fans. I think any time there is a Jets game and Vikings game on the same weekend, there will be tonnes of Winnipeggers in the city.

If something does develop over time, it may start with that. The sheer number of Jets fans that are going down to watch. I know I get annoyed at other teams fans cheering in our building, and I'm sure that the Wild fans will get tired of it very soon as well.

    What?

I know people that went last weekend and I know people going to the games in October and Novemebr

Not one says anything about a rivalry, they are going because it was easy getting tickets to see the Jets play there then it is here.

The only people taking about this being a rivalry is the media outlets

LOL what? I live in Minneapolis, and most of the folks I talk to say the rivalries are going to be with Winnipeg and Chicago. There were TONS of Jets fans at the X on Saturday. Frankly, I think the Jets-Wild rivalry is going to be bigger than Hawks-Wild but we'll see.

  23. Guess the section I was in didn't care too much. I will never hate the Wild. No hyped rivalry will change my mind. My hate on is for the Yotes and will never change. The only person I dislike is Heatley. [mod]

I honestly think having genuine hate for another team is silly and childish. It's fine to joke around, but at the end of the day I'm prepared to bet most people don't genuinely hate other teams' fans, or even their players. For most, I'd say it's more like a game we're all playing. Rivalries are fun because they make some games matter more than others, they give us something to get excited about. Whoever those teams end up being doesn't really matter. And people who genuinely hate other teams or their fans need a reality check. There's more important things in the world than hockey.

How do you know a rivalry won't develop?
What a bizarre statement. Also hate and rivalry are different.
