Nurse is better right now. I still think that Oilers might have turned out very differently if they just drafted Ristolainen instead of Nurse. Their RD weakness wouldn't have been nearly as glaring, likely no Hall for Larsson etc.

Nurse

He's been playing like 30 minutes a game since he became our 1d (Klefbom injured). Now that he's getting 1pp time he's on pace for like 40 points, and that ppg keeps rising.

Risto is really flawed d-man at the moment, but the talent is there. He will we much better than Nurse in couple of years.

It is close. Nurse has playing very well after Klefbom got injured (16 points in 17 games while playing 25+ a night)

You're right, 17 games certainly changes everything.

Also, not sure why playing lots of minutes is some badge of honor. Not to mention Ristolainen is 5th in the entire NHL in icetime/game. Which he shouldn't be playing either.

It does matter. Nurse and Risto are only 5 points off of each other, thus your statement of this not being close is stupid

Risto has been doing that for years. He has been getting played Karlsson/Doughty minutes with no help for the past 4 seasons and has scored at around .5 ppg since 2015. Please though, tell us how Nurse is the better offensive player and plays more minutes the past 17 games.

Risto is a flawed player, mostly because coaching has used him wrong. At the end of every year we hear how Risto needed to play less minutes, and at the start of every year hes back playing 27 minutes a night.

Wasn't Ristolainen the most overrated D-man in the league and utterly unbearable in his own zone - a middle pairing offensive D at best?

What the heck does that make Nurse if people are saying Ristolainen AINEC?

If we're not being silly and biased, both obviously have brain dead moments but are the same proximity in terms of level of play.

Risto was overrated, as a number 1 defenseman, hes still better than Nurse. He has dumb moments and has very good moments, he lacks consistency one way or the other. He is a middle pairing guy being shoehorned into a top pairing role playing far too many minutes, but hes far from a bad player.

For the record, I agree with all that.
