That may be a curse or a benefit...

For anyone that's watched, it should be a benefit. They would have noticed that he was sent out with the following types of forwards in defensive roles to play against the opposition's top lines.

Imagine being surprised that Risto has shitty analytics after watching him play with this group, and with terrible coaching against the best players in the world on a nightly basis.

Any truth to the rumor Anaheim is looking at a trade?

Lebrun mentioned it in his latest article (paywall)

LeBrun: Why it’s a good time to be shopping for a D-man and why Thomas Chabot extension will be a steal for Sens

The Ducks, meanwhile, have also checked in on Ristolainen, according to sources. But the price from the Sabres was high. And it probably should be, given that Ristolainen has three more years at a very good cap hit, $5.4 million. The Sabres aren’t going to give the guy away. I would think within two to three weeks of the regular season getting underway, we should have a good idea of how the Ristolainen situation plays out.

Hearing that teams are checking in on Risto and that the price is high puts a smile on my face. Absolutely ridiculous the lack of respect Risto has gotten the past several months in regards to the trade rumors and his value. What he has produced before the age of 25 is damn good. People forget how god awful the Sabres were in terms of blue line production since Campbell left.

Risto has 4 straight 41+ point seasons. The last Sabre dman to score 40+ 4 years in a row was Phil Housley from 86-90. After going decades with only 1 legit offensive dman (soupy) in that time frame people do not appreciate what Risto has done. With better players around him to help alleviate pressure Risto will look much much better.

When/if Risto is traded it is going to be for a quality return. Think Montour return but even better. A better prospect then Guhle+ a 1st round pick. What would be even better is for Risto to play out the season and put up a 5th consecutive 41+ point season but better underlying defensive numbers and just better defensively period.

But again hearing that the asking price on Risto is high is music to my ears. Unlike many I do not think subtracting Risto makes us better by default.

If you can get Connor for Risto and a 1st, you trip over yourself saying yes to that. Connor's only 22 and his nose for the net is unreal. He's going to hit 40 very soon. Having pairs of Jack-Skinner and Sam-Connor on your top two lines would be incredible.

I would take Ehlers way before Connor. He is a net negative player. We talk about Vesey being a net negative but you want to bring in another guy who is as well.

They're both fantastic, I wouldn't be upset with either player. That being said there's no way in hell the Jets trade either one.

No way in hell should we be giving up 2 1sts on top of Risto for Laine considering how high they’re going to be.

We just gave out 8x9 to a one dimensional scorer we don’t need a second at that price. If that’s the move we make it might just be the straw that breaks the camels back for me.

After scoring 1 goal in the last two preaseason games I would be in on Laine but Risto and 1St and some extras would be my limit.

Still going into a 3rd season without a competent 2C and I cannot forgive any longer.

How about Ristolainen for Raatanen (plus whatever throw in's)?

Mikko is way more than a power play specialist....

Risto would fit in Colorado since Eric Johnson on the down side of his career, Zadorov is untrustworthy (and on a 1 year contract), Byram is not anywhere close to NHL ready (nothing close to Dahlin).

Colorado and Buffalo have dealt before.........

Risto is the throw in for a player like that. It would be Reinhart + Risto to get Colorado to listen.

So you agree Rantannen is a better overall player than Laine?

Marner equivalent? (I believe the Leafs overpaid for Marner...)

Aho comparable?

Just curious. Not setting any traps here....

Teams bit*ch and complain, hem and haw about signing there stars then find a way 99% of the time. I do not see Col getting rid of him.

If Pierre LaCroix was still GM.. Rants would already be gone.

Personally, I think Luit has been forced to commit a few unearned errors in recent days with statements to the press explaining his clients utterances...

Rantanen > Marner >> Laine imo

Agreed on Marner being overpaid.

edit: I wouldn't include Reinhart in a deal for Rantanen though, I don't think the upgrade is all that big and Sam will probably be cheaper despite the bridge

I trade Risto + 2 1sts for Laine provided there is top 5 restrictions on those 1sts. If it is 2 1sts in the 8-15 range and Risto for a young high end goal scorer is a no brainer.

Laine, Olofsson and Skinner on this team would give us 3 30+ goal high end goal scoring wingers. Sam a 40-50 assist winger and then Mitts and Cozens down the middle behind Jack...yes please.

You should just give us a list of players you would trade for if the cost is reinhart. It’ll probably be pretty quick and save time on all future discussions

In any discussion involving Reinhart as a trade piece I do my best to put my bias aside.

That trade has "the worst trade of all time" aura to it. Risto becomes a solid top pairing defenseman. One of the firsts becomes a top pairing forward, while the other a top 6 player. Sheary has a better offensive output than Laine, who allows his off ice challenges to get the best of him.

If you watched Risto last night and thought he was about to blossom into a top pairing defenseman, I really don't know what else to say.

What i see is someone closer to a bottom pairing type/PP specialist, maybe I'm crazy.
