While "Totaalvoetbal" (total football) started as the system in which Cruyff thrived, it seemed to have become his motto in life. He did not only dominate the game, but he used his fame to remain a free spirit and an outspoken critic, sometimes even against powerful persons like Franco.
Cruyff died much too soon, but it seems to me that he has lived a happy life, just the way he wanted it - always closely tied to football, but much closer to his family. Unfortunately, a bad habit like smoking is neough to kill even the special ones. In Germany, he is nicknamed "King Johan", and this king will reign forever.
