    Who would you scratch?

I personally would rather see Rielly - Fraser as that 3rd pairing rather than Ranger - Fraser

I'd rather both sit and get Liles in there

    Gunnar Phaneuf
    Gardiner Franson
    Fraser Liles

Fraser is horrible in his own end to. Our defense improved when he got injured in the playoffs and Gardiner came in. He's a pylon.

I wouldn't mind giving Rielly a crack with Fraser though. At the very least with that pairing unlikely to have Fraser jumping up in the play and causing 2 on1s the other way. Could be a better position to allow Rielly to jump up himself a little bit more.

How about letting Franson sit? Outside of some decent hits he made, he's been pretty underwhelming. Ranger, on the other hand, has actually been playing quite well.

Jonas Siegal and Mirtle brought up good points on Ranger. Ranger's confidence is kinda fragile and you dont want to sit him in fear of losing him completely. Its why you bench Rielly.

Who should? Ranger obviously. Who would I? Probably Rielly.

Danger no doubt. Has maybe made 2 good plays in 17 games.

I remember before the season people thought Ranger could be a top 4 player for us. Such a shame that never came true..

Ranger should just be our 7th defenseman, Rielly, at the very least, needs some (sheltered) minutes with Fraser

    Phaneuf - Rielly
    Gardiner - Franson
    Liles - Granberg/MacWillian

Both Fraser and Ranger can piss off

Using time on ice as an indication of top 4, he is has the 5th most TOI/game among our defensemen; using TOTAL time on ice per game.

However, using Even strength time on ice per game, which is also a fair measure, he has 3rd most time on ice per game, ahead of Gunnar and Franson and Rielly.

So, in this respect he is a top 4 Dmen. At least, among our Dmen, he is a top 4 Dman.

He also has the 2nd most points by a Dman in even strength situations and he's closing in on Phanuef in the department by the way.
He has also been on the ice for the 2nd fewest even strength goals against behind Gardiner only.

Course, people don't like these kinds of stats because they don't like the way Ranger plays; kind of like not liking Reimer cause he doesn't look good, gives up too many rebounds, can't catch, flops around, isn't efficient, etc etc etc - course, he does keep the puck out of the net pretty well, and people can see that okay but they just have a hard time seeing that Ranger does help keep the puck out of our own net - which he does.

We have to go back 7 games, to the Columbus game to find the last time Ranger was on the ice for even strength goal against!

We'll see if they can be replaced with a league minimum type player. Sure.

Without question Ranger. Easily been our worst defender this season.

    Bump for science!

Ranger is fine. RC wanted to dress the tough guy Fraser for the Boston Elbow Fest. Now Fraser can sit back down.

Our team has also averaged 36.6 shots a game when he missed three weeks with injuries as well this season, it doesn't show Fraser as good or bad but it does show your biasm towards the guy and it also shows our problems on this team runs a lot deeper then Fraser.

Aforementioned stats disagree with you as well as coach Carlyle apparently. Perhaps he's not as bad as everyone makes him out to be, but rather just the current whipping boy.

People complaining about Ranger have no clue what they're talking about. As rogie said, Ranger wasn't on the ice for a goal since the Columbus game yet people never **** about him being some sort of liability on the ice. The guy has saved the Leafs countless times. Like breaking up 2 on 1s, break aways and saving one timers but people never bring it up because they just want something to complain about. Like last night

The puck hasn't touched Bergeron's stick yet, how on earth do you say this is Ranger's fault?

I thought Ranger was fine, and he made a smart little play to free Lupul on his goal.

I'd sit Fraser, his outlet passes may just be the worst in the league, he treats the puck like a bomb.
