You've got to feel pretty optimistic with all these cap experts in the management group. It's funny that people on the main boards worry about our cap situation, when at present, there clearly isn't one and even if there was, there are three, soon to be four, cap specialists that will be looking at every contract under intense scrutiny to see how they can alleviate any potential issues.

It's funny how everyone ELSE worries about the Leafs cap issues except Leaf fans.

I've just recently joined after being a lurker for years, but it's pretty strange how certain posters on the main board try to paint the narrative that we're in cap hell, when in reality, there's plenty of wiggle room should we want to upgrade this team further and tie up William Nylander to a long-term deal.

It is very logical. These posters have been bashing the Leafs for years for being terrible which is fair play because they were.

Now the Leafs finally are on the up swing with a very bright future so these people have to find some way to discredit the Leafs and bash on them. Currently the best way is to say the Leafs wont fit the good players under the cap so are going to have to sell Nylander for peanuts.

It is an absolute comedy bowl and I'm loving it.

This is it.

It was easy to bash the Leafs for years, heck even Leaf fans bashed them.

Now it's become harder. So they cling to this narrative, like, "well, they are doomed for cap hell soon. Cant afford everyone".

Once it will be proven we can afford everyone, it will change too, "well, now you cant add anyone. You are stuck with this roster and no cap space. Good luck trying to improve."

Eventually, we'll win a Cup and it will be "yeah, well the truly great teams of recent memory follow it up with at least another... Pitt, LA, Chicago. Lets see Toronto do it again, then I'll really believe it wasn't a fluke."

It's a never ending cycle.

Well to be fair, we won't be able to afford "everyone" but they just target the wrong guys for us not to be able to afford. Brown, Hyman, and eventually Kapanen, Johnsson, then eventually Timashov, Bracco are the guys you cycle in cheap, then move when it's time for their 2nd NHL contracts. Avoid cap hell like the Red Wings with guys like Helm and Abdelkader making $4M-$5M a year.

"The Leafs are two seasons away from cap hell LOL" is my favorite urban legend.

The NHL cap isn't that hard to understand. You don't need a team of cap experts to manage it.
Clubs get in cap trouble if they have too many players not living up their contracts on the. team. Right now that isn't an issue with the Leafs.
The Leafs are hoping (as does every team) that there players are so good and need big contracts. Not enough cap, then you can trade one for fair value, easing cap issues. If you have bad value contracts, you either have to trade and give sweeteners, retain in deals or buyout players, which is long term bad.

He is officially listed as a pro scout on the Leafs management page now.

So the Leafs have filled their vacant pro scout spots with two very experienced people. Former long time Director of Player Personell + Amateaur Scouting and now a long time Assistant GM.

It's especially amusing since they always manage to add up the Leafs cap space incorrectly even though capfriendly literally does it for you and the device they're posting on has a calculator.

That's like failing a 3rd grade math quiz, in which the answers are printed onto the paper and they're given a calculator.

Then, on the other hand, we have analytics wiz and former player agent, Kyle Dubas and his AGM Brandon Pridham, whose previous duties with the NHL included explaining to GMs their own cap situation to them saying we're fine.

Boy, I sure do wonder who's right.
