He did ok as checking line and 4th line Center for defensive assignments but if you ever need any offense you really don't want him out there ever. Didn't need to be sign right now but its for the minimum so whatever.

By the way he's expansion draft exempt.

If Dickinson gets taken in the expansion draft there's a good chance Gardner will get into more games than any of us want to see him in.

If last season was any indication you should be able to get better value even at or near league minimum- wouldn't really care however if both years were two-way obviously. Even his fancy stats are hot garbage not sure what compelled the one-way deal.

He’s a good 4th liner and PKer. Would like him in Cogs role for a quarter of the price or whatever he got.

Good for him to get the 1 way contract in 22/23; wasn't expecting that.

I like him a bit more than Caamano, but would prefer if neither played anymore NHL games without significant improvement.

Getting six points in a season isn't going to cut it no matter how good you are on the PK or defensive side of the puck.

I liked him as a fill in option, but if there is going to be no taxi squad next year he will probably just be the 13th forward or plug in if someone on the defensive line gets hurt.

In all fairness there’s a chance he gets a little bit better. Not expecting much from him, but this was his first year in the NHL

Either way he either works out or he doesn’t

How is he exempt but Mascherin is not?

It's based on pro experience rather than age; 1st and 2nd year pros are exempt. This is Macherin's third pro season and only Gardner's second.

*Side note: Gardner had a cup of coffee with Texas at the end of the 18/19 season but that was on a amateur try out rather than his entry level contract so it wasn't considered a pro season.
