None of any D on the Ducks is over 30.

Henrique 29

Terry 21
Jones 21

Sherwood 23

Getzlaf is 33, Kesler is 34 and Perry is 33

I have no clue how young you want to get but imho this roster is quite young overall.
Don't buck the HF boards narrative. Ducks are aging and going to be bad for a long time.

No problem with the term or cap hit. I think Silf is worth every penny, is a consummate pro, and I don’t see any reason he won’t be worth the money through his 33 year old season.

The question to me is wether this was the best path for the ducks, or if they should be trying to go full rebuild and acquire picks/prospects for him.

To be fair, they’re still working off the extra 10 years Carlyle added to their ages

what this tell us is that the ducks are not going for a rebuild or even a retool. they make 1 or 2 deals in the offseason and hope the a new head coach and prospects graduating make us relevant again.

I mean the contract ittself is not bad but i don't quite get it for Anaheim in their current position.

That's where I am too. Good news is that it probably would be easy to move if they need to.

Better find a way to find a stud young center in the off-season then. And I'm not holding my breath on that front.

This is the reason why bad teams stay bad and good teams, like the Sharks, stay good.

Overpaying for marginal talent gets you nowhere.

Interesting that you include the Ducks in a phrase pertaining to 'bad teams staying bad'. This is their first bad year since 2012. They've made the playoffs the past 6 years, while 5 of those were as Division Champs. They've had more overall success than the Sharks, whom you refer to as a good team.
  • 1 cup vs 0 cups
  • 2 SC Finals appearances vs 1
  • 5 Conf. Finals vs 4
  • 54.9% playoff winning percentage vs 47.4%

As for the topic at hand, Silfverberg is not a marginal talent. He's a second line talent with elite defensive skills. While I think the Ducks should be trading him for assets, given their current status, I don't think this contract is bad at all for a player of his level.

You feeling okay? That's literally Zucker/ OEL money

You mean the same Jason Zucker who had inferior stats to Silfverberg in every season except for last year, which seems to be an outlier to what he typically does? Also, you're using OEL's contract that he signed 6 years ago as a comparable?? You must have missed that he signed a new contact last year at 8,250,00, so Silfverberg's contract is nowhere near his.

This is where I'm at with it...Love Silfv and think the contract is fine, but would rather see the Ducks take advantage of these assets and start building for the future.

Agreed with the whole age thing...however, this team desperately needs a top draft pick or two. None of our current prospects project to be stars. With Getz, Kes, and Perry all in the downward years of their careers, the Ducks seriously need to find a way to get some future top replacements for them.

This is ridiculous. He's having a down year, as is every Duck player. Aside from that, he's a second line player and a defensive specialist.

i dont buy the 2nd line player part.

2nd line players have more than 1 season over 50 points and a career ppg better than 0.50.

If Silfverberg is a 2nd line player, then so is Coyle

I mean Zucker is having a down year but let’s not pretend Silf has Zucks ability

Man, are points the only thing people ever talk about? Clearly no one watches the Ducks and what Silf does for the team...

90 forwards for first line duty, 90 for second line. Last year the first cut was at 52 points, the second at 33.

20 goal scorer have always been 2nd liner.

His history doesn't show it's a down year. It more so shows that last year was an anomaly. I think you're underrating Silfverberg here. He's played in a shutdown role for the past several seasons and still has outproduced Zucker in all but one of those seasons.

Yeah that's a fair deal for what he brings. Under paid if anything.
