For long suffering Bruins fans in Canada the start of the 1970 Stanley Cup Play- Offs was made extra sweet by the fact that both the hated Habs and Leafs (who between them had won the previous 8 Cups) were for the first time ever, both not in the Play - Offs.

I would give a lot to have the Bruins win the Stanley Cup 7 or 8 times in a row. I’m not sure where exactly I would draw the line between what would be an acceptable price versus a price too steep, but I would probably surprise even myself.

‎Bruins Audio on Apple Podcasts

50 years ago, Bobby Orr made history with "The Goal" on Mother's Day, May 10th, 1970, winning the Stanley Cup in a packed Boston Garden.

Five decades later, the current play by play voice of the Boston Bruins, Judd Sirott, looks back at the 1969-1970 Boston Bruins, "When Hockey Ruled The Hub."

Judd narrates a two-hour 98.5 The Sports Hub special with interviews from former greats like Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito, and Derek Sanderson, plus audio from the legendary season, 50 years ago.

That was one wonderful hour of great hockey memories.

Being in my 7th decade, I do not remember too many exact dates of major life altering events.

However Mother's Day, May 10th 1970 , is forever etched in my memory bank.

The Quiet Corner
My mother would occasionally listen to the Bruins on the radio. She decided to watch this game on tv, she'd never seen a hockey game on tv before and she got to see this history making game & that incredible goal. She said she yelled when Orr's shot went into the net lol. I don't know where I was, I was 7 at the time, probably outside playing.

Looked like an amazing time to be a Bruins fan. Weird to see white socks with the black jersey and fans trying to punch out players
