Stars game: 11-27: 1-0 Oilers (overtime decision): Koskinen came up big again. If the Oilers continue to refine their defensive system, given two star centres plus goaltending, they could actually make some noise. Their checking would also have to ramp-up.

Wild game: 12-7: 7-2 Oilers: Talbot has looked good in this and the previous game (against the Blues). A little competition at the back end might not be such a bad thing, since establishing a defensive identity is crucial for the Oilers. I am still in the Koskinen camp at the moment. It was great to see them convert on a few rushing plays, and at least one goal resulting from offensive pressure (the Nurse goal at the end).

He's posting much delayed thoughts about past games he catches up on. IIRC he used to do this for every game and it ended up being a decent starting place for general discussion but he hasn't done it much as of late.

Sorry for the delayed responses, everyone. I'm about six games behind all of a sudden and I've been trying to avoid knowing the scores and HFOil for that reason.

It's content without proper context to give said content much value. Or something.
You're not wrong. I hope to bring more value by posting on latest games, but I gotta keep the games going in sequence for my own enjoyment.

Flames game: 12-9: 1-0 Oilers: The Oilers played a pretty steady and even dominating game, in a defensive way at least, against the Flames. They won this game playing a different, offensive style against the Wild. They can win in different ways, like they did under McClellen when they had their early winning streak. Plus Koskinen got a shutout.

It's a podcast without the pod. And the cast.

I like it
I've been missing some peas in my pod lately.

Avalanche game: 12-11: 6-4 Oilers: RNH played another very good game, but it was the sustained offensive onslaught, spearheaded by the top line (McDavid and Draisaitl), that ultimately led to the Oilers victory. Koskinen and the overall defensive game of the Oilers slipped a bit at the end. Rantanen was a lot to handle, and the defense had to shift around a bit during the course of the game. Klefbom may actually be injured. It seems like it'll end up being a minor injury, though.

It was actually a really good game until the 3rd. I wonder if I still have it on pvr. Might re-watch it tonight if I do.

Jets game: 12-13: 5-4 Jets overtime victory: The refs should have called more penalties and the game really could have been decided by offensive flow. I don't think Talbot played that well, and the team looked defensively gassed toward the end. In the latter regard, this game is a bit reminiscent of the previous game, which was against the Avalanche. Apparently, the Klefbom injury is not that minor.

Flyers game: 12-14: 4-1 Oilers: The Oilers played pretty well defensively and didn't have to play that well offensively to get four goals. The Flyers defensive play seemed fairly easy. The Flyers didn't seem terrible, but they weren't very physical and had trouble scoring. In this sense, they reminded me a bit of the pre- Hitchcock Oilers from late last season or even the current one. Great games again from the top line (Draisaitl, McDavid, Chiasson) and Koskinen. The Oilers defense held up pretty well too.

Canucks game: 12-16: 4-2 Canucks: This game started off a bit slow, but when it did get going, the Canuck's stifling defensive play was the difference. The Oilers should try to get more shots on net. Good hitting game from Lucic, and Chiasson is still scoring at the point of this game.

Blues game: 12-18: 4-1 Blues: This was another conservative, tight-checking affair in which the Oilers lacked offensive punch. Although the Oilers have been faltering a bit in the last few games, Khaira has been non a bit of an points streak. This, however, will inevitably end in the near future due to his suspension. Since the Blues had good stick position on passing lanes, the Oilers could perhaps have attempted to score off the rush a bit more.

Sharks game: 2-9-19: 5-2 Sharks: The Sharks were very tenacious on the backcheck as they left the Oilers very little when the latter attacked.
