Perhaps a thread dedicated to this subject will stem its virus-like spread into all the other topics of conversation.

This can be the place for us to do all our sparring over the merits and consequences of relocation, which teams are threatened, and which markets would be a viable alternative.

It's also a convenient spot for the mods to move relocation-related conversation that is OT in another thread.

Mayor Bee had a thread somewhat related to this recently:

I guess you can hope that this one will end differently. But you have a point, if all the relocation talk can be confined to one thread, then any time it's brought up elsewhere it can be directed here.

I like the idea.

But I am skeptical that it will be effective.

One can only hope though.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling this is going to turn into "Southern supporters" vs. "Relocationists". Both sides will say they are right and that the other side is wrong. Eventually it will devolve into endless Canada vs. USA debates.

I actually like the way it is right now, with each thread discussing either a team that may relocate in the future (Phoenix, Atlanta, etc) or a potential city where a team may relocate to (Winnipeg, Quebec City, Portland, Hamilton, etc).

If you are going to start a thread, I suggest you add some content for discussion in it. Otherwise, it comes across as if you are trying dictate where and how certain topics are discussed -- i.e., "okay, children, if you want to play that game, do it in this room please." Of course, that is exactly what you are attempting to do, isn't it.

The thing is that it exists already, so a thread with the intention of trying to bottle all those arguments in here, rather than having them spill into numerous other threads, at least seems like a reasonable idea.

I think tarheel is suggesting "where" but not "how" this general topic should be discussed... The Mods will say "How", I'd think. ;)

The problem is very easy to figure out. If the team moved from Atlanta, Nashville, Carolina, Florida or Phoenix 99% of said city wouldn't miss a beat.

I share no such hope.

We'll just talk about relocation if/when there's a situation that warrants it. We all know where this is going to end up. Just like the other five thousand attempts.
