Why does she need to be a martyr and spread the world? There was a young girl from BC whos suicide created a huge awareness of social media/internet anonymity and how real the effects can be.

You know what the lesson from Amanda Todd's story is? Do not share everything over the internet! There are bad people on the internet.

So we need to wait for people to kill themselves to get the word out? Are you serious?

Wow... So she should run away and shut up? No one can make a difference? Good for her the internet would be a much better place if you could no longer be anonymous.

You shouldn't be able to hide behind a keyboard and behave in a way that in person would get you arrested.

So the solution is to ****ing ignore it? Is that the ticket then? What do you propose she do to help spread the word? Please, share it with us.

Do you happen to be an inhabitant of Disneyland by any chance? Is it the recurring theme here that adding a #tweetsweet to all the positive tweets will resolve all of the cyber-bullying problems?

Well, officer, she was wearing that short skirt to the party, so I just assumed she was willing...

No one should have to put up with that under any circumstances. It's wrong, period.

And I am not condoning it. I am just saying that it comes with being a public figure. Do we feel sorry for celebrities that have to be escorted by bodyguards all the time?

If she doesn't like what comes with being affiliated with fame she can choose to live a lower profile life. Getting rid of her public twitter account would be a great start.

Well did you watch the video? its called hashtag sweettweets.

No one said twitter is a friendly place.

If you talk down to someone in school, the work place, etc., what happens? Can you get away with anything because you have freedom of speech/expression?

No.

So, would you rather have people standing up against people that **** on others or not?

The person's sex, ethnicity, or income should never condemn them for standing up against bullying. Period.

We're living in the era of the rats and cowards.

Nah, We're just living in the era when people can lose a lot on account of a single word said ab irato. And I don't mean some eastern tyrannies. Political correctness makes people protesting it in different formes. Internet bullying is one of it.

And I'm not sure it's a concious protest.

Not much of a solution so far. Got anything better?

It gives me joy to know that Reimer is really rich and has a beautiful and incredibly supportive wife.

For some reason, I don't imagine the people targeted with this campaign have as much going for them.

Did you not read your own post before pressing "submit reply" ?

April Reimer's "cause" pales in comparison to the awareness created by Amanda Todd's death.

Guess what, there are still bad people on the internet. Does April Reimer deserve any kind of abuse? Absolutely not. But its easy to make it go away.

Social media is not some sort of inherent right that we all deserve. We are still in the very early stages of the internet and it is still a dangerous place. Tread cautiously or get off.

Sadly, this thread has devolved to personal attacks, which I think is the point of the thread.

Full circle.
