Hell baby
The guy plays like a Bruin.

He has looked good from what I've seen (4.5 of the 6 games)

Bruins wanted him in 2009- solidly on their radar for third round and they were disappointed when Dallas snagged him early that turn.

Interestingly enough- they took Ryan Button in their spot, who was then part of the larger deal that brought Smith to Boston. Button- great guy...unfortunately, he was just optioned to Idaho of the ECHL this week.

Dan Pallie 2.0? Good speed size gritty player that does the little things and fit anywhere in the line up and play well. Just lacks that scoring touch.

Hes good and has turned out to sort of be like Marchand basically a gritty 3rd liner with the offense and skill of a 2nd liner.

Looks to be a fit for our system. Hasn't looked out of place at all basically replacing Peverley.

So not Christian Hansen part 2 after all, and those that felt otherwise aren't delusional?

As an honest assessment:

He is grittier than advertised, decent speed too. He looks like he has a lack of finishing (I would chalk it up to bad luck, but the Dallas scouts said the same thing, so...) his super weak goal on Thomas tonight doesn't change my mind on that. If it comes down to Smith or Caron, Smith has him by a fair margin. I would like to see:

Lucic-Krejci-Iggy
Soderberg-Bergeron-Eriksson
Marchand--Kelly--Smith
Merlot

As that 3rd line would be fast, gritty and good. Marchand and Smith on the 3rd line would cause fits for the opposition and the 2nd could use Soderberg's size for all the board work they do.

Colt you do know it was a back hand and a goalie has more difficulty picking them up. I wish some other Bruins would shoot the puck before they set themselves picture perfect.

Back hands were my best weapon during my garage league days. Well it's true I had no other weapon but I was more accurate.

Like to see some killer instinct when it comes to scoring. Had a couple of good looks last night and instead passed.
Other than that, great addition and good fit.

I think it's too early to make a call on his finish. 28 goals as a 19 year old sophomore, 30 goals as a 20 year old junior (2nd in the nation, first in the CCHA conference by ten goals). I know that's college but those are pretty big numbers and he produced decently in the AHL, still could find his touch in the NHL.

Is it just me, or does Smith remind anyone of Lucic (I mean just skating stance and stride)?

My assessment is different from most. (I see where the lack of finishing idea arises, but I would say he lacks strength. He is similar to Peverley but without quite as much speed or acceleration but a more well rouned game. (He has better anticipation)...A speed player that needs to work on strength and grit, but has some other nice attributes....He may develop...
He is exactly what this team needed. While he may be in over his head playing in the top 6, he seems like he is a good fit in the bottom 6. If he keeps up the intensity,it looks like it is between Soderberg and Caron for that last spot. The extra depth will come in handy in the playoffs.

Totally agree, those "no finish" comment 6 games into is sophomore season are really premature.

Truth be told he's looked better than Loui. I had him him pegged as the 3rd line RW from day one but now he's looking good on the second line. It also allows for Loui to play on his natural wing which could pay dividends.

I think it's too early to come up with any potential stats. He could be a 20-35-55 guy pretty easily I think though.

If he proves himself to be an effective 6 to 9 guy, nice value pickup in that trade.

Certainly looks good so far. Will be interesting to see how he does over the next 20 games or so. The fact that the Bruins wanted him in the third (Kirk's post) is encouraging. They must have determined he had the intangibles thy value immensely.

He's certainly outplaying Brad Marchand. I remember the days when it would have taken Clode 20-25 games before swapping Marchand and Smith the way he did.

Smith will be a really good guy for you guys if he keeps putting it together like it seems he has been. He always seemed to have the tools in Dallas but could just never finish (maybe simple bad luck). Hope he keeps playing good

I like him. He just needs to stop passing up shooting opportunities.

Well it sounds like he has already embraced the system. Let him pass the puck to Chara, Seidenberg and Boychuk so they can have a go at a telegraphed slapshot.

Bruins manage the puck like you do a football in the last 2 minutes then try to shoot when the defending team is in position.

Kid`s played well, not saying any more about him or I`ll jinx everything:)

Still not sure he`s a top 6 guy, but he`s done nothing to force Julien to move him anywhere else in this short sample size

One of Smith or Soderberg may turn out to be a top 6 guy.We already know Marchand is.I hope we have the luxury of using Marchand on the 3rd line.I am fairly convinced our core players will play well the rest of the year. It sounds absurd to guage our chances of a Stanley Cup on the likes of newbies such as Soderberg and Smith and the development of our kids on the backend but ultimately that is what it might come down to.

One of the keys to this team's success, is going to be a consistent offensive threat from the third line.

If Smith can prove to be a contributing member of that second line (they sure SEEM to jive), that REALLY opens up the third.

I'm still quite iffy about his place on the team, but a few more games like this last one and my concerns could be silenced.

He's doing good. He's second on the team in points but he needs to shoot more. He only has 7 shots on the season.

But does he pack lips and max chicks?

He's been solid, from what I've seen. An adequate replacement for Peverley with about the same upside. Not as flashy, mind you, but a solid NHLer and as likely to contribute going forward as the departed Raptor Jesus. Looks like the Bruins pro scouting did an admirable job, something we should all be used to by now.
