Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 53 of Season 2 of Red Wings Rant hosted by the Brothers of Discussion and brought to you by the Hockey Podcast Network. Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home.

Now that we know the Red Wings are going to be drafting at the 6th spot, who should they draft. One would argue that the 2021 NHL Draft does not have a clear-cut number one draft pick. That being said, we have almost no idea who is going to fall to number 6.

So I took a look at the draft from different prospect ranking pools, like Dobber, Elite Prospects, and TSN to find out who would be the ‘best available’ for the Detroit Red Wings to draft at the number 6 spot.

The conclusion is that we’ll be pretty happy with the results, we may be able to trade back, and there is no consensus, even at the number one spot.

Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 54 of Season 2 of Red Wings Rant hosted by the Brothers of Discussion and brought to you by the Hockey Podcast Network. Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home.

After discussing all of the real possibilities for the Red Wings and their 6th pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, one name kept popping up in the comments and tweet replies: Jesper Wallstedt. Should the Red Wings take a flyer on Jepser Wallstedt. Is Jesper Wallsetedt worth the risk for any NHL Franchise? Does it make sense for the Red Wings to draft Jesper Wallstedt? Why is drafting a goaltender in the first round so risky? Is Wallstedt good enough to decrease the risk when drafting him in the 1st round?

We’ll also touch on some expert picks and who left Jesper Wallstedt out of their mock drafts and if scouts think that will actually be the case.

Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 55 of Season 2 of Red Wings Rant hosted by the Brothers of Discussion and brought to you by the Hockey Podcast Network. Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home.

NHL Prospects finished their season-ending NHL Draft Prospect Rankings. Their number 7 ranked prospect is the Swedish Forward, William Eklund.

If the draft were to follow the NHL Prospects’ Rankings, found on Elite Prospects, the Red Wings should continue their trend of drafting Swedish Prospects, like in 2020 when the Red Wings drafted Lucas Raymond, William Wallinder, and Theodor Neiderbach and the draft William Eklund with the number 6 pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.

We discuss why Eklund is the right pick for the Detroit Red Wings. What did Eklund’s coaches have to say about him? What Eklund’s top skills? We also present William Eklund highlights from the 2020-21 season to help you make your own judgment..

Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 56 of Season 2 of Red Wings Rant hosted by the Brothers of Discussion and brought to you by the Hockey Podcast Network. Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home.

The Detroit Red Wings have the number six pick in the 2021 NHL Draft and no two draft ranking websites or individuals can seem to agree on where the 2021 NHL Draft Prospects, like Owen Power, William Eklund, and Jesper Wallstedt, should rank.

Mason McTavish is a clear 1st round pick for the NHL Draft, but many NHL rankings have him going later in the 1st round, except for Elite Prospects, who have McTavish listed as the number 5 prospect available in the NHL Draft.

Why does Elite Prospects have Mason McTavish ranked as a number 5 prospect in the 2021 NHL Draft? His coaches say its his shot. I say it's his 6'2" frame weighing over 200 lbs. Mason has a potentially elite shot with a body that can take NHL punishment. But should he be drafted by the Red Wings at number 6?

Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 57 of Season 2 of Red Wings Rant hosted by the Brothers of Discussion and brought to you by the Hockey Podcast Network. Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home.

We celebrate a Detroit Franchise finally landing the number one pick in a draft lottery and how massive the effect will be for the Detroit Pistons. Also, we compare the rebuilds and timetables for both the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Red Wings.

With the Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Islanders, Montreal Canadiens, and Vegas Golden Knights all sniffing the Stanley Cup Finals, we ask which team the Red WIngs would be best to emulate or recreate.

We dissect if Steve Yzerman can build the Red Wings more quickly by looking for the next Carey Price or is it better to be patient and build the unstoppable force of the Lightning.

Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 58 of Season 2 of Red Wings Rant hosted by the Brothers of Discussion and brought to you by the Hockey Podcast Network. Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home.

As we pick apart the Red Wings Draft, let’s analyze pick 22 from the Washington Capitals and who we could add to the roster.

With Jesper Wallstedt getting most of the goaltender attention for the 2021 NHL Draft, the number two goalie prospect could be available for the Red Wings with pick 22. The number two goalie prospect for the NHL Draft is Sebastian Cossa.

We discuss why Cossa is the right pick for the Detroit Red Wings. What did Cossa’s coaches have to say about him? What Cossa’s top skills? We also present Sebastian Cossa highlights from the 2020-21 season to help you make your own judgment.

We finally take a look at Simon Edvinsson, the 6’5” Swedish defenseman, who played for Frolunda. Is it possible we lock up our top 2 defensemen for the Franchise’s core? Why are NHL scouts excited about Simon Edvinsson?

Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 59 of Season 2 of Red Wings Rant hosted by the Brothers of Discussion and brought to you by the Hockey Podcast Network. Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home.

Red Wings Hire Alex Tanguay
The Red Wings have hired a new Assistant Bench Boss in Assistant Head Coach, Alex Tanguay. As Assistant Head Coach, Alex Tanguay will be in charge of the Forwards and the Power Play. Alex Tanguay coached for the Iowa Wild and handled their power play for the last two seasons. His strategies lead to the Iowa Wild having the 5th best Power Play in the AHL.

Tanguay played the majority of his career with the Colorado Avalanche from 1999-2016. Over his career, Alex Tanguay amassed 244 Power Play points.

Reports Coming in Keith Petruzzelli will not sign with Red Wings
Red Wings are also moving away from their top goaltender prospect (arguably) in Keith Petruzzelli. The 22-Year-Old Goalie Prospect just finished a fantastic season with Quinnipiac in the NCAA. Petruzzelli had a .926 Save Percentage with a 1.89 GAA.

Keith Petruzzelli was drafted in the 2017 draft in the 3rd round. His 6'5" frame had a lot to do with his draft selection. Since he has elevated his play in the NCAA over the course of four seasons, one would expect him to find a job somewhere.

Building a Winner Through Free Agency
NHL Draft is 24th - Free Agency is the 28th

The Red Wings are granted early access to every pending free agent.

You can add in some draft picks

You must follow RFA rules

Can we build a champion?

Zadina - Pettersson - Vrana

Bertuzzi - Larkin - Lucas Raymond

Blake Coleman -Phillip Danault - Jonatan Berggren

Adam Erne - Joe Veleno - Robby Fabbri

Moritz Seider - Dougie Hamilton

Alec Martinez - Filip Hronek

Ryan Murray - Troy Stecher

Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 60 of Season 2 of Red Wings Rant hosted by the Brothers of Discussion and brought to you by the Hockey Podcast Network. Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home.

In today’s episode, we go back to the 2021 NHL Draft and weigh the positives and negatives of Luke Hughes and Brandt Clarke. Two high-ranked defensemen in the 2021 NHL Draft come with outstanding grades for offense, despite doing it in very different ways.

Luke Hughes has the pedigree, being the brother of both Quinn Hughes and Jack Hughes. You’ll find him ranked as high as number one on some draft rankings and as low as 11. His creativity and skating ability will surely land him in the top 10, if not in the top 5.

Brandt Clarke is ranked 2nd on quite a few different prospect rankings, but NHL Central Scouting has him at 7. He played the last season in Slovakia, where he racked up 15 points in 25 games, but was an absolute stud in the OHL, with 32 assists in 57 games for the Barrie Colts.

With this draft being so wide open, either defender could fall to the number 6 spot and the Red Wings should absolutely consider picking them up. Listen to the full episode to learn a little bit more about Luke Hughes and Brandt Clarke, two of the top prospects in the 2021 NHL Draft.

Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 64 of Season 2 of Red Wings Rant hosted by the Brothers of Discussion and brought to you by the Hockey Podcast Network. Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home.

In today’s episode, we take a look at who the Detroit Red Wings decided to protect in the 2021 Seattle Expansion Draft. We also look at who the Red Wings left exposed for the expansion draft and who is most likely to be headed to Seattle.

#RedWings protection list: Bertuzzi, Erne, Fabbri, Larkin, Rasmussen, Smith, Vrana, Hronek, Leddy, Lindstrom, Greiss.

Exposed: Namestnikov, Nielsen, DeKeyser, Stecher.

We also pick apart the Nick Leddy trade and why this trade for the Red Wings is 'fine'. Yzerman did not fleece the New York Islanders and the return of Nick Leddy will help the Red Wings.

Finally, we put together a couple of Seattle Kraken teams that could challenge for the President’s Trophy, thanks to JFresh and his Seattle Roster Builder. We picked through the 100’s of players available in the Seattle Expansion Draft and mocked a few different versions of the draft that the people of Seattle would be VERY happy to see happen.

Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 71 of Season 2 of Red Wings Rant hosted by the Brothers of Discussion and brought to you by the Hockey Podcast Network. Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home.

Today we discuss Jakub Vrana’s signing and an update from Elias Pettersson on signing with the Vancouver Canucks and what he wants from his next team.

Jakub Vrana signed a three-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings, worth $15.75 ($5.25 AAV). Jakub Vrana was of course a piece in the Washington Capitals trade for Anthony Mantha in the 2021 Season. The Capitals sent the Red Wings Jakub Vrana, a 1st round pick and 2nd round pick in exchange for Anthony Mantha.

A first-round pick by Washington in 2014, Vrana has 168 points (84 goals, 84 assists) in 295 games across five NHL seasons. Jakub Vrana also had 8 goals and 11 points in 11 games with the Red Wings, to close out the 2021 campaign.

Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 76 of Season 2 of Red Wings Rant: Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home.

Let’s discuss Wyatt Newpower, the Red Wings offseason acquisition, who signed his Entry-Level Contract with the Red Wings on May 31, 2021.

Newpower is a Right Side defenseman from Hugo, MN. He is 6’4”, 205 lbs. He played 4 seasons for the University of Connecticut and finished his 2019-20 campaign with 22 points in 34 games.

His next challenge was in the AHL, with the Cleveland Monsters, where Newpower had a fairly good showing, racking up 3 goals and 10 points and a +10 rating in 24 games. A very successful first pro season for any defenseman is most likely what lead to his ELC back in May.

Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 77 of Season 2 of Red Wings Rant: Where tirades and impassioned pleas about your Detroit Red Wings, finally, have a home.

Let’s Discuss our Top 10 Red Wings Prospects You Need to Know for this season! With the 2021-22 NHL season mere weeks away, there are a lot of names that are going to pop up that you need to make sure you’re aware of.

While the season rolls along in Detroit, injuries, minor league standouts, and trades are going to ensure there is plenty of roster movement. While the Red Wings don’t offer a ton of excitement in regards to the standings, they do offer excitement in the potential for their future stars.

Today we are going to highlight those future stars who are going to make the biggest impact, close to home. That means we are going to highlight those players who might make it to the NHL this year, return to Grand Rapids, or debut in Grand Rapids.

While all of our prospects have a chance to make a statement every year, these are the names we think will make that impact while playing in the mitten.

These names include:

Moritz Seider

Lucas Raymond

Joe Veleno

Chase Pearson

Albert Johansson

Jonatan Berggren and more!

We’re going to rank them in terms of excitement level and potential to be in the NHL this season. While not all of them have a strong chance, some dominoes might fall into place, giving us a chance to see how they look in the Winged Wheel!
