By the time Team Canada faced off against this team at Lake Placid for the olympics, Team USSR outscored their opponents 45 - 7. Out of all these Soviet players, five would go on to have pretty decent careers in the NHL...beginning in 1989. With one more becoming an assistant coach with the Blackhawks. Truth is, any one of these players would have been a star for any NHL club. Coach Tikhonov kept center Igor Larionov off the team intentionally as a disciplinary message. Would Team USSR have won the gold at the Lake Placid olympics with Larionov on the team?

:) The man took a nightly beating. Dino, Vladdy and Bob Probert were the toughest guys I had the pleasure of working with.-John Wharton

Has anyone seen footage of the Polonich-Paiement incident from '78? Written accounts read like something straight out of Slap Shot. It was damaging enough to win Polonich an $800k+ settlement in '82. Doubt we have many here that were alive to have seen in person or on television.

Sounds like there is no video of it. Ever. 4 Cameras were there shooting the game and this happened away from the play from what i read about it

And many in here doesn't even want to try signing him as UFA. Crazy.

Here is an announcement of Mike Green's signing which also did absolutely nothing to the long term success of the organization and just locked in resources for short term reasons with long term consequence. UFA's are added to a core not to a rebuild. Get a core first :)

What was the long-term consequence of adding Green? The blueline was a mess and his original deal was only 3 years.

The blueline salary casualty that came as a result was trading Brendan Smith (2nd round pick in 2018, 3rd round pick in 2017). Oh no?

The consequence was continuing to band-aid the roster when it needed to be completely scrapped. Adding a UFA for the wrong reasons at the wrong time that did absolutely nothing to lead the fan base to a watchable product. But I would reccomend we take our discussion to another thread its just not "crazy" to not want Krug is all I'm say'n
