Well good way to finish the year !! Wanted to start trend talking about the big trades that happened this off-season.

Anderson for domi

Anderson 50 - 17 - 7 - 24
Domi 53 - 9 - 15 - 24

I think domi brought a different element that this team needed. Yes he had his ups and downs but adding speed and creativity was nice. Points not to far off. I would consider the trade a push. Both players helped each team. Anderson adding much needed power forward to mtl. Domi filling in at center because we have none lol.

Laine and Roslovic for Dubois

Laine 41 - 10 - 11 - 21
Rosolvic 48 - 12 - 22 - 34

Dubois 37 - 8 - 12 - 20

I think we won this big time
Love Rosolvic and think Laine will be better with new coach.

For player production stand point Rosolvic added center depth and creativity and Laine was a disappointment but still did almost same numbers as Dubois with way less talent around him

# winning lol

It depends on how you assess the trades. Do you incorporate all of the factors around it - age, contract, changing player values, etc. .?

If it's simply a matter of comparing this year's performances I would say we handily won the Roslovic trade and clearly lost the Anderson trade.

Perhaps I'll find the time to do a more in depth analysis later on.

Anderson contact no thanks!! We won if you consider that factor on domi trade

It’s still too early to definitively say either way on all these trades, including Anderson. But I’ll play along

We lost the Domi-Anderson deal. Outside of some flashes Domi wasn’t very good this year and was largely ineffective on the powerplay. Now I know their point total is nearly identical but Anderson brings so much more to the table. He does everything. Contract aside, Anderson is just a more effective player.

We’re leading in the PLD-Laine/Roslovic deal because Roslovic has been the only player of the three to actually appear comfortable with their new team. Which isn’t surprising since he’s from here and wanted to play here. You saw lots of flashes from Dubois at times in winnipeg and you saw some from Laine in Columbus. But both have been disappointing. I think Dubois will have a big playoffs.

Early signs point to us doing alright in these deals

Make no mistake, Roslovic was going to be a Jacket one way or another. He was holding out and the Jets would’ve traded him for a pick.

Maybe, but not necessarily to Columbus. He didn't request a trade to us. He just wanted out of Winnipeg. Yeah I think he wanted to be here, but that wasn't his ONLY place.

IMHO we don't need big trades. Only exactly team addition. Roslovic is good, Domi and Laine started to play better especially Max. Texier and Bemstrom progress. Foudy too. Don't forget Nyquist, in fact he'll be a new player. Werenski will be health, Peeke and Carlsson progress too. Btw Grigorenko played on the center yesterday and not bad.

Anderson scores goals something we needed. Oft injured, but loved by his team mates. I think that is a clear loss.

I don't know how you can give up a top line C and get a very overpaid specialist and be happy about it. Roslovic helped with the trade but top line C's don't come around very often.

Now in this case (Laine) maybe adding new coaches and more talent will help it look better but right now you have to look at the result:
-We went from being a playoff team, needing to find a goalie to step up and looking for secondary scoring and an improved power play to a team looking for a #1 Center, needing scoring and hoping Jones and Z will stick around after a very bad season.

I know everyone wants to find "Wins" after this miserable season but I don't think either trade can be viewed as a win as of now.

I always thought we did well in the PLD trade. Indeed we lost a center but picked up one of the great goal scorers in hockey. Ironically both teams are so far disappointed in the centerpieces of the deal. Ironically Roslovic has outperformed my expectations (by a lot) and delivered the best performance of the three. So I still think we win this deal as Laine will be a better player next year.

Domi has been disappointing even considering his point total is the same as Andy’s. But it’s not like Andy was able to continue us his torrid start and I still question his contract. He does have 17 goals and I always value goals over assists. I’ll move off an incomplete grade later based on how Domi plays next year in a new system.

One point I will add is that this team would have performed better this year with Andy and (a mentally committed) PLD simply because they fit Torts system when none of the three additions did. However....Going forward, the new coach will have some skill to work with if he can manage their shortfalls without stifling their strengths (or confidence).

It will be interesting to see the impact of a new coaching staff plus a training camp to install the new system will have on these three guys, particularly Laine.

Obviously the retro dream scenario would be to get Roslovic for a pair of second rounders or maybe Savard. And hold Dubois so you can make a bid for Eichel after the Sabres season falls apart.

I don't think you can judge the Anderson trade anytime soon. It really comes down to how that deal ends and how it impacts the cap.

Look at it from a MTL perspective. Trading a disgruntled player that isn't a key to your plans for something you don't have. Yeah that guy missed a year and has some injury history, but look what he can do healthy. It's a huge risk reward matrix. If it's 3-4 years of dead cap was it a good trade? Maybe but the disgruntled guy didn't grace value there.

And then you have to weigh in Domi and his value in Columbus...

As for the PLD trade, he's a 2A/1B that can be a monster at times. This just comes down to Laine recapturing his early years or rounding into a better player and if Roslovic can grow too. Far too soon to tell.

If you want to judge today I think you ask. If we had PLD and Andy still would we have won more games and made the playoffs.

I'd say we would - but that's because of what would be necessary to still have PLD. I maintain that what killed this team was that that walkout and the refusal to explain why and/or what was wrong killed this team's "more than the sum of their parts" mojo that we've been maintaining and succeeding with ever since Tortorella Year 2.

Hell, if The Exiled Traitor had actually been upfront and forthcoming about his desire to go elsewhere, I think we could have rebounded this year. But he refused, and that was a poison pill.

We lost the Nutivaara trade. Not only because of the return, but also because we depleted our transition game and didn't need the salary cap clearance after all.

If Radulov and Benn would be health Dallas could be in PO. Or Chicago with health Toews. That's all if... .
Similar trades aren't only for this time we must think about future too. Thanks to trade PLD and Anderson we get TOP winget (I'm sure this season was anomaly for Patrik) and very good centers. Because Anderson is better in defense then Max but the second is not only better in offense but he's a center. And very good center. 2A IMHO.

Nuti was behind Kukan on our depth chart when he was traded, currently about 7th on the Panthers chart. MDZ and Kukan were a strong pair for us so it would be unlikely that we'd have seen Nuti much. Just $2.7m on the shelf. He might have been better than Savard was but obviously wouldn't have been handed that role with Savard still here.

Unless our 5th round pick this year turns out to be a stud, we lost the Ryan Murray trade as well.

If he's willing to come back, I think we can sign Murray this summer. He was overpaid (considering games played) but will have to take a big paycut this summer wherever he goes. I'm guessing down to $3m. We could definitely benefit from his passing but I'm not sure about the roster space. MDZ and Lehtonen could fill out the left side and should be cheaper. After MDZs strong season it's hard to imagine we wouldn't try to bring him back. The trouble is that all those guys are left shots, it's our right side that has available minutes.

I'd be down but I don't think Murray would unless he had to. He requested a trade two years in a row. Kudos to him for never complaining but he wanted to move on.

Yeah I would not expect him to have interest but FWIW he left largely to get a fresh start after all of his injury problems here, and New Jersey ended up being more of the same.

Domi for Anderson is a win win trade. We clearly don’t want Domi back, Anderson is a better fit here.

For this season PLD > Laine, IMO both were disappointing, Laine massively so, but CBJ got the best player of the trade in Roslovic so it's a win for now. This far it was kinda one of those trades where both teams are worse off after it and everybody except Roslovic loses. In Laine's defence the whole team starting with Torts looked like a complete tire fire, but then again it certainly didn't seem like Laine made things any better for a large part of the season. I think part of the problem for both Laine and PLD was that it's a tricky season to get used to new everything, get to know team mates etc... same goes for Roslovic except he had his hometown boost. And had his best results in terms of offence early on when he was just kinda flying out there and having fun more than playing to a system.

I know less to nothing about Anderson, so I'm just going to say Domi was pretty disappointing and Roslovic being way better than anticipated kinda makes it seem like they are very comparable players and also raises the question if there's use for both of them in the same roster. I kinda like both, maybe, and with the right line combos maybe it all works out but I wouldn't be surprised if Domi gets traded for a less than average #1C in some kind of package. If that player is available somewhere. Domi did show glimpses of the player he could be, but is that enough?
