Real-Time Statistics Question

Does the NHL allow average people access to their real-time statistics (in an easily accessible format) for free or do you have to purchase them?
If they need to be bought, what is the approximate value of the stats?

i.e. do large fantasy hockey sites (or sites like hockeydb.com) that update their pools on a daily basis purchase the stats from the NHL or update them on their own? Are the stats free?

This has been a question that has been 'bothering' me for awhile.

    Thank you for your time!

If I'm understanding what you're asking, if you can write a perl script, you can strip the information from the stats for each game, for free.

    E.g., http://www.nhl.com/scores/htmlreports/20102011/GS020842.HTM

    or more generically http://www.nhl.com/scores/htmlreports/YYYYYYYY/XX02NNNN.HTM

Where YYYYYYYY is the eight digits of years of season, XX is the type of stat information and NNNN is the NHL number of the game.

Some leagues like ECHL for example use Leaguestat to update their own sites. If you are asking how espn or yahoo or hockeydb gets their stats from the NHL, they probably just 'scrape' it with a text reading/comparing and stat compiling program from the play-by-play reports like this one: http://www.nhl.com/scores/htmlreports/20102011/PL020843.HTM

I am not 100% sure what you are asking either....but NHL real time stats are available to all and free.
