    2-3 years away from the NHL will definitely be a cause for concern for some teams. It shouldn't really be but it will be. Similar to how Russian prospects that are signed in the KHL for a couple years beyond the draft fall because of it.

    The Wings, especially Tyler Wright and Ken Holland are big on character, so they want to get a lot of face to face meetings with guys. They have done this for years it just wasn't with the high profile draft guys because they were too far down. Now we are hearing more about it because of who they are talking to.

    Boqvist is still really raw. Even at the U18 level, he outscores his competition but there are basic mistakes in coverage happening regularly.

    The talent is there, but whoever drafts him will have to be real patient. When the player himself feels he’s still 2-3 years away, that should be self-evident, but one can never underestimate the willingness of certain NHL teams to throw their prospects into the fire before they are ready.

    Is he starting next year in Swedish Juniors, or in the SHL? If I'm the Wings GM, I ask him this during the interviews.

    Eliteprospects has him listed as playing for Brynas IF J20 (juniors) to start the 2018-19 season.

    He’d probably tell you he’s 2-3 years away from the SHL.

    Good. Never understood why people thought so highly of him in the first place. An unnecessarily risky pick considering Dobson and Hughes have just as much potential to be great NHLers with much less risk attached

    Shouldn't you be happy if he gets picked high by another team since he obviously sucks so much? Seems pretty ridiculous to be happy about a prospect falling just because. Did he bully you in school?

    Their posts are here for everyone to see. Call them out in about a year for their bad takes.

    It’s one thing to be modest about knowing a player would having success when there was little controversy, but the abuse from the NA fans towards Boqvist is total rubbish. Don’t let it go unchallenged. Call it out, so they start paying closer attention the next time instead of believing the TSN propaganda.

    I don’t have TSN, seen him live in Gävle and seen more of his play on TV with Almtuna than I saw I did Hlinka.

    He’s a 75 foot player. Allergic to the puck in his own end under pressure, needs his partner to soak the forecheck so he has room to roam.

    Yes, too small to handle playing D against men in his own end, but didn’t generate O against them with optimal deployment on 2 levels.

    D against his own cohort was serviceable in transition, but once the other team gained the zone he was disinterested to be generous. Didn’t cover posts, didn’t try and cut off passing lanes to weak side and didn’t move his feet to make either happen. A game watcher. His own J20 coach says he needs work.

    3 years to be competent in SHL, another 2 years to compete in the NHL.

    Not a waste of resources, but wouldn’t touch him in the top 20. His upside is PK Subban, but an anorexic version of him. His D upside is sheltered pair.

    He was swedens best player at the recent u-18 tournament and was dominant. He played a lot better than Smith did and I personally think boqvist was the best dman in the tournament. Pk subban is a terrible comparison, especially for upside. He has a heck of a wrist shot and is a pp specialist. Good at transitioning from defense to offense. Plays decent in his own zone as well (better than hughes imo).

    The hockey world seems a little down on this kid right now, but I think he's getting nitpicked a little bit. He's so good, and so young for this draft. He's not done developing by a long shot. He's still my #1 guy in this draft who can make you go "what were we thinking in passing him up?" someday.

    From what Bob Stauffer has been saying lately, even if he's there at 10 the Oilers would take Ty Smith instead.

    Man reading this thread is lile Dejavu reading Erik Karlsson trade back then.

    Too small, good offensively but cant handle forcheck, terrible on his own end .


    Yikes. Its like people think development in linear and it stops at 18.


    Id be ecstatic to draft him at 7OA. Then you gotta hope that development takes over.

    Its not as if guys like Hughes or Dobson are without risks.
