I remember the Flyers playing the bruins right before the TDL and no one checking Bourque because they didn’t want him getting hurt. It was a rumored done deal, IIRC.

Had the Flyers traded Simon Gagne for Ray Bourque, how would have the Flyers replaced Gagne?

The Flyers were not going to trade Gagne. It was some combo of Langkow/Delmore or Eaton/(I seem to recall S. McCarthy)/draft pick(s)/going to Boston. There was a verbal discussion of the trade and it was reportedly a done deal prior to the Bruins-Flyers game that afternoon. Then a change of course by Boston to Colorado in the next few hours. "What ifs" can change the course of history.
