How can you say our defense is poor? On paper we probably have the most under-rated defense in the league.

A Carlyle on Kadri's and Clarkson's neck 10 out of 10

Overall: (somebody else count it) out of 10 :D
I think our team is a real playoff team that can do anything. I'm hoping and seeing that Bolland and Clarkson will bring new leadership to our clubbing.

Top 6 forwards : 8.5 out of 10 (really only missing a #1 center)
Bottom 6 forwards : 8 out of 10 (I think we have some of the deepest forwards in the league)
Toughness : 7.5 out of 10 (we have some really tough, but also some really soft)
Offence as a whole : 8 out of 10 (always a threat)
Top 4 Defence : 7 out of 10 (overworked top pairing)
Bottom 4 Defence : 8 out of 10 (really deep with tons of potential)
Defence overall : 7.5 out of 10 (chance to be really great)
Goaltending : 7.5 out of 10 (couple young very promising guys)
Speed : 8.5 out of 10 (the speed on the back end raises it)
Coaching : 9 out of 10 (one of the best in my opinion)
Leadership : 7.5 out of 10 (no guys shown to have carried team on back)
Depth: 8 out of 10 (depth on D is great, on forward it lacks down the middle)

Overall: 7.91 out of 10 (if we avoid injuries we will do really well in my opinion)

How can you say our defense is poor? On paper we probably have the most under-rated defense in the league.

For the last half of the season our team was constantly outshot and hemmed in the zone, with Ranger being the only notable addition I don't know how this claim is valid. We have a lot of good young D but the group needs to take a step defensively. On paper it looks nice if they can improve overall defensive play in our zone.

Our system is made defensively to allow shots but they are low percentage shots. Our defensemen stick to the inside and keep the offense to the outside. Our problem was rebound control (goalie) and clearing pucks out of our zone (an all-around team problem honestly).

I don't think they are horrible, I just think it needs some work, our strength is obviously offence and not defence, we have a lot of potential but I'd say we are just average in that area I don't think thats really that unfair

Top 6 forwards: 8
Arguably four players with first-line skill, but Bozak and Clarkson knock it down a notch.

Bottom 6 forwards: 7.5
Having two enforcers play full time impacts my rating. Bolland's play is in question as well.

Toughness: 8.5
Good, but still lacking in the top-six.

Offence as a whole: 8
Very solid, deep group with options from the minors to jump into the bottom-six. Questions at centre, but we'll see how that plays out.

Top 4 Defence: 7.5
Need a stronger #2. Phaneuf needs to work on his D-zone play; gets skated around quite easily. Gardiner has shown flashes of brilliance, but has been inconsistent also. Ranger is a wildcard. Potential to be great.

Bottom 4 Defence: 8
Franson is better than a third-pairing player. Same thoughts on Gardiner and Ranger.

Defence overall: 7.5

Goaltending: 8
Reimer has proven to be a very dependable starter. Bernier looks like he can start as well.

Speed: 8
Slower than last year after losing Grabovski, MacArthur, Frattin, Komarov, but some of that was made up with the signing of Raymond.

Coaching: 9
Huge reason Leafs went as far as they did in round one was due to Carlyle's meticulous coaching strategy.

Leadership:
Leaving this blank. I don't think you can really judge something like this from an outsider's perspective.

Depth: 8.5
This is the Leafs' strong point: depth in pretty much all positions.

Well we will see but I think your vastly overrating our defence. Its good and young but theres lots of work to be done. We still don't really have a defensive anchor.

Maybe goaltending an 8 and speed an 8 but I agree with this, pretty thought out. Definitely see this team as an 7.9 out of 10 kind of team. Things could go right and Leafs make a run but a couple injuries or not so great development years and it could turn south.

This team has good potential.

Phaneuf has done well. Give him some support in playing the heavy minutes and he'll be great.

Improved on Top 6, bottom 6 is pretty good, but 2 goons on the 4th line isn't my preference, adds toughness though. Top-4 defense is good, others are decent. Easily one of the best goaltending duos in the NHL, but due to inexperience I gave it 8.5. Leadership is crazy on this team, so many dedicated players I love it. We definitely lost speed this offseason, adding Raymond gives us some back but I think we got a tad slower. Carlyle is a fairly decent coach in my eyes. Overall, solid 8.

8 of 10 down the board, because I am lazy and it's close up and down, the overall is 8 as well. I would say that puts us on the fence for making the PO but tilting in rather than out.

I know and I love Phaneuf :), I think its a damn shame we haven't found him a proper #2 to play with, someone who can shoulder some of the defensive responsibility and let Phaneuf jump up and play a more physical/offensive game.

I want to make it clear that I'm not bashing our D, I like our D and our prospects are really strong in that position. I just think they need a bit of time and maybe one more real good defensive minded guy in there.
