Looking for some help on my annual rating project. Shouldn't take more than 15 mins if you watched most of the Blue Jackets games last season. So the areas that we're rating are on a five point scale and go as follows:
  • Player Role: This is really what type of player they are, and specifically where they would slot into the average NHL team, not necessarily Columbus. So they could be Elite Superstar, All-Star, 1st liner, 2nd liner, 3rd liner, 4th liner/Scratch, Minor leaguer, High-end prospect, Low-end prospect.
  • Skating: Straight ahead speed should be the primary consideration. Rate on the provided scale where 1 is the lowest, 5 is the highest and 3 is average.
  • Defense: Overall defensive skill but primarily gap control and using their stick and body to neutralize an attacker. Rate on the 1-5 scale.
The Scale:
5 - Well above average
4 - Above average
3 - Average
2 - Below Average
1 - Well below average
(In reality some player could be a 0 or 6, for example McDavid would rate as a 6 in skating, this would be an extremely rare case and most teams won't have a 0 or 6 in any area)

I need only 2-3 submissions, and the help is extremely appreciated!

For reference, here are the players that I'm looking for:
Stefan Matteau
Pierre-Luc Dubois
Kevin Stenlund
Boone Jenner
Devin Shore
Calvin Thurkauf
Ryan MacInnis
Alexander Wennberg
Alexandre Texier
Emil Bemstrom
Riley Nash
Liam Foudy
Gustav Nyquist
Nathan Gerbe
Nick Foligno
Marko Dano
Eric Robinson
Jakob Lilja
Josh Anderson
Kole Sherwood
Oliver Bjorkstrand
Cam Atkinson
David Savard
Vladislav Gavrikov
Zach Werenski
Seth Jones
Ryan Murray

It’s too hard. Team just ended a weird season on a downer. No one has the patience right now for the exercise, which has value just... not now. I was gonna make a snide comment about a Members Only I had in college... even that proved too exhausting.

It’s a valid exercise. It just requires some patience and distance that we don’t have right now.

Yeah there’s not a ton of activity on the board right now in general. I think we’re burnt out right now. Give us a few weeks and we’ll be back.

You have Nyquist as a first liner , and Pld as a 2nd liner ?

That's why I ask for help from the fans who know. I mostly go by average ice time per game to slot players into a role if I don't get any useful input. Nyquist I agree should be a 2nd liner, but he skated more than 18 minutes last season, and did so during the previous season while with Detroit (but not San Jose). 18 minutes is generally the threshold of where you would expect a 1st liner to be. PLD is literally just a few seconds below that, but also has never gone above 18 in a season. Realistically looking strictly at stats, both players are probably high-end 2nd liners.

So again, if anyone wants to contribute 15-20 minutes to look over these and give meaningful feedback, it would be extremely useful to me.
