Tons of hype and expectations for him. He has certainly lived up to them thus far. Whether judged by eye test or stats he already seems like a top pair guy ( to me at least) and he is only 18! Players and coaches around the league are raving about him, even comparing him to Lidstrom. Just a thread for people to talk about Dahlin in general or post highlights.

Also, do you think he will ever be considered best d man in the league? If so, how many years do you think until he is and how many Norris trophies do you think he will win?

One of the few players in the league I would stop and consider moving MacKinnon for.

Sabres have some good, young pieces to build their franchise around and I'm happy for them.

He was advertised as a generational player and so far he hasn’t lived up to the hype

Ekblad won the Calder. Dahlia won’t even win that.

McDavid didn't win a Calder either and good luck to any defenseman hope of winning a Calder when a rookie forward is having a big year.

If you know anything about hockey beyond goals and assists and trophies you can see he’s lived up to expectations. Dahlin is a freak, who is obviously only scratching the surface of his potential.

I'd say give it 2 years and he will contend for the Norris and be a top 5-10 dman in this league. Sabres will be so good

I personally don't think the Lidstrom comparison fits though. Karlsson with a dab of Hedman makes more sense

He's on pace for 40 points as a skinny 18 year old rookie defenseman. I'll be damned if that isn't impressive. He's going to be downright dominant very soon, and as a Leafs fan, I'm not particularly looking forward to it.

I'm in the minority but I think he should be getting a lot more calder hype. Everyone is acting like Pettersson is far and away the best rookie but watching Dahlin I see a guy who is just as impactful for Buffalo, it just doesn't show up as much on the scoresheet as he's an 18 year defenseman.

Pilut is the guy who’s going to fly under the radar, he’s going to be our Ekholm, I’m not saying he’s going to be as good but in the sense by he’s over shadowed by a couple guys (dahlin ristolainen) and while pilut is exceptional this is about dahlin.

It’s pretty funny I made a thread in the main boards In September titled something To the extent of “project your teams top ten scorers and add what you think they’d get.”

I’ve been off on a few but eichel and Reinhart are doing better then I projected, mittlestadt worse but the funny thing is dahlin is identical to what i predicted.

Pretty sure I put dahlin 8 goals 33 assists 41 pts, and it’s funny how he’s on pace for pretty much exactly that. I even predicted something like plus 6 and he’s what plus 3? It’s funny.

He makes tons of mistakes but my god he’s ahead of the curve and sometimes looks like a video game player. He will learn and when he does he will be frightening. All the great d men make mistakes anyway....so yes he may enter that category but only time will tell.

He certainly has all the tools but how many dman were better then kidstrom? Maybe a couple?

Dahlin is better now at 18 than Ekblad is at 22.

If Pettersson is seriously hurt, then it's Dahlin's to lose.

I mean, no disrespect to Colin White, but Dahlin is far and away #2.

Dahlin is absolutely amazing, but all this post says is that you haven't actually watched Elias this year. Hes on another level than everyone in this rookie class.

Dahlin is probably going to be a top 3 dman for many many years though. I'm not hating. Love that kid too.

You know damn well McDavid should've won the Calder lol. Giving it to Panarin (who was like 7 years older) was criminal.

His potential is about as high as it can get. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a Norris contender within a few seasons. I’d be surprised if he’s not in five years or more. IMHO.

He's good but he makes a lot of mistakes. He gets caught flat footed way to much, his acceleration is pretty bad and even his top end speed isn't the greatest. He also has a weak shot. Other than that he is solid for an 18 year old. He will definitely need 3-4 years to get truly going, but if he puts it all together I don't see anyone matching this guy.

I was an early bloomer when it comes to growing. I was like 4'10" in kindergarten.

My doctor used to say I'd be 6'7" when I got my growth spurt. That WAS my growth spurt

Ended up 6'2", so I can't complain, but I can't help but feel like the Erik Johnson of height (Great NHL career, but sticks out as a 1st overall).

The speed and acceleration issue is one of the easiest things to fix for a player his age and body type. He'll gain explosiveness as he puts on more mass and strengthens his legs. His skating technique is outstanding as is, and he's only going to become more dynamic in this area as he matures.

Judging a player solely by the individual feel good trophies he acquires is kids table logic.

Kid’s going to be a beast. Happy to see Buffalo on their way up, though hopefully they’ll take their sweet time and let the Lightning win a Cup or three before they get there. Buffalo has some of the most loyal fans in all of sports, and while I’ll never root against my team if we don’t win it in a given year I’d love to see the Cup paraded around Buffalo some day.

Dahlin needs extra practise with a skating coach 7 days a week.
