I really really like Point, but Rantanen's half zone offensive game is starting to remind me so much of Mario Lemiuex - probably moreso than anyone else. He doesn't have Mario's ability to dangle off the rush, but once he's in the zone with possession he's a monster. Hands, vision, and strong as an oxe.
It's not a coincidence that MacKinnon went from scoring at a ~50-55 point clip to scoring at a 100 point pace. MacKinnon deserves credit, but Rantaned is IMO the difference.
Just to emphasize the difference in MacKinnon's production before Rantanen became a veteran presence on his wing:
3 seasons prior to non-rookie Rantanen: 51g 143p in 218gp (19g 53p pace)
Last 2 seasons with Rantanen:
66g 165p in 121gp (45g 109p pace)
That's 15 more goals, 22 more points in 97 less games!!!
They are a fun pair to watch, they complement each other perfectly.
