I mean Nylander always amazes me when I watch him play, he has that young Kane esque arrogance and ignorance in his game with the puck. I think he's a diamond.... And still think Rantanen is the better option!! I can't believe we have Rantanen in the Avs and that he's finnish

I think Rantanen has more dimensions to his game when he isn't scoring. I also think this will be a peak year for him offensively, though. (Yes, players peak offensively in their early 20s all the time - development isn't linear)
Rantanen is probably singlehandedly better player without the puck. And at the moment he's playing better with the puck statswise. His 60p ahl season is also best that either one played in AHL.

Rantanen had
60 points in 52 games

Nylander had
45 points in 38 games
It's harder to maintain that point pace for 52 games than for 38 games don't you agree? Also Rantanen played for a weaker non playoff club and Nylander played for... The Marlies. Marlies had multiple players in top 10 scoring in the league that year, Rampage didn't... And for my finishing move I choose to play "the amount of goals card." Rantanen 24g > Nylander 18g

Very close but For me Nylander 5 on 5 is better. By the way , no leaf player is going to win a comparison poll if we're only using points as a comparison because Babcock doesn't over use his forwards therefore there point totals will be down.

If I'm not mistaken, Nylander was actually quite bad 5v5 last season and racked most of his points on the PP.
He caught on fire second half of the season before that he was pretty even with hyman in 5v5 production (except early on in the season)

Both great talents and very even in most things. Nylander slightly better 5v5 but should be mentioned his linemate is probably the best 5v5 scorer in the game (probably partly due to nylander).

I think this comes down to preference. And i also believe nylander can score more goals than he does if he didnt have such a scoring threat to pass to.

Rantanen has mackinnon who is truly breaking out (probably in part thanks to rantanen) so its a tough one.

Hypothetically if we would have equal linemates to both i think their point totals would be pretty even maybe slight edge to rantanen from what we have seen so far but this doesnt mean anything just my observation. As i said had nylander been the sole threat of his line i think we would see him with much higher goal totals.

Just because Nylander scores a tad more at 5v5 (0,63ppg vs 0,59ppg) doesn't make him a better 5v5 player. Rantanen's two-way play is better than Nylander's and more than makes up for the 5v5 scoring, nevermind the superior PP play of Rantanen. Need to have quite the leaf colored glasses to claim that Nylander is better.

Even if fans claim otherwise, Leafs would kill to have Rantanen next to Matthews instead of Nylander

I dont know man.. nylander is the main puck carrier thanks to his excellent skating, dont think rants would be a good exchange. Matthews assist totals would go up tho.

Nylander at ES has the pts edge 39-36.
Rantanen gets nearly 4 mins pp time per game, willie gets a hair over 2.

The player who has 10 more points than the other player

this clearly takes into the account one guy has the PP edge in pts 23-7 mainly because he gets 3:46 a game vs 2:07 per game.

Nylander outscored Rantanen by 23 pts last year..so there is that

I respect those that take nylander over rantanen but some of the arguments just make me smh

Mikkos getting more PP time so his pp points shouldn't count or something? Nylander has a few more ES points playing 4 more games, big deal.
Some of you guys are making it sound like rantanens a powerplay specialist and that is not the case at all.
Yeah he doesn't attack the blue line as dynamic as Nylander probably does but why the hell does he have to do that when he has Mackinnon on his line? All in all I'm taking rantanen for my team. Just compliments mackinnon so well, probably the same goes for matthews and nylander

If we look at Matthews/Mack/Rant and Willie play styles I think Rant and Nylander would compliment each other as would Mack and Matthews.
