Who ends up the better player? I think it’s clear Laine will be the better goal scorer, but as an overall offensive threat Rants may have him beat imo.

Rantanen if Laine keeps being a floater and lazy.

Right now Rantanen is playing top minutes with one of the best centermen in the league whilst Laine is struggling with a mediocre C in the second line. Also keep in mind that Rantanen is 2 years older than Laine.

Laine will surpass him once these issues are fixed.

Laine will end up the better player. Right now Rantanen is ahead and is borderline elite player, but Laine will surpass him. Both great players though.

Rantanen. More dynamic and versatile. Creates a punching duo with MacK and also with Landy there they are very good.

He has worked his way up and showed promising day 1

Last year Rantanen was an above average playmaker but bottom tier at individual chance generation. He was a below average possession guy but good relative to his team since the avalanche were a bad possession team. However his possession metrics tank away from MacKinnon. In addition to that he put up putrid defensive results in 16-17, and not exactly good ones in 17-18 either. Rantanen is not a star player, he is a guy who is making a living playing next to a stud in Nathan MacKinnon.

Sure, his corsi dropped by over 10% away from Nate last year while Nate didn’t drop much away from rants. And rants 16-17 season overall looks pretty terrible.

You mean his rookie season where he scored 20 goals on the worst team in the cap era? Do you ever watch the players or just the stats?
