No chance in hell Stamkos or MacKinnon have played better than Kovalchuk did -retirement or not.

Until he went to NJ Kovalchuk was next to Ovechkin since his entering the league for goals and points

edit: i guess this thread is for a single career season? Seems pretty silly but whatever I misread

MacKinnon's season was not better than Hall's - but Kovalchuk's was.

Career seasons? Only regular season? Not playoffs? Because there's a couple of Cup winners / CS winners there that would tilt the scales.

Put Connor above Stamkos, Tavares, and Kane for one reason: none of those players have ever been argued/considered as the best player in the world at any point in their careers, something McDavid already has a legitimate claim too.

The OP is talking their CAREER SEASON, not career. No shot tavares is even in the top 10. Kovalchuk scored 98 and 50+ goals, etc etc

Laughable Kane was probably in the NHL 2014-16

Tavares was a single point back of winning the Art Ross in 2015. If Benn didn't have a four point meaningless game, if Eakin doesn't score with 8 seconds left in Benn's season, we're talking about the Art Ross winning Tavares that year. Based on the way fans get a hard on for trophies, he would be getting a lot more respect for his season if he did manage to hold onto the Art Ross.

He was clearly behind Price, but he was arguably the best skater in the league that year (as his Hart Nomination proves)

Many of the picks have yet to be nominated for a Hart.

Yes, Kane has been in the NHL since 2007.

If you meant to type “best player” somewhere in there, most people would disagree. Most dangerous=\= best. And even if he was (he wasn’t but I’ll be charitable), a lot more people think that about McDavid now than they ever did about Kane.

That was a weak year in terms of Art Ross competition, though.

Then who was the best player in the world in 2014-16?
