What Makes a Prospect?
A player will be considered a prospect until he meets the following criteria:

If a prospect is a skater (forward, defenseman) and has played in 65 NHL games or more before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday; or, if a goaltender has played in 45 NHL games before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday, that player will be considered graduated to the NHL. Conversely, if a player completes the season of his 24th birthday without passing those milestones, then that player will no longer be considered a prospect by Hockey’s Future, regardless of the player’s status with his NHL club.

An NCAA player who signs his first contract at or above the age of 22 has three years to meet the above criteria (65/45), while those NCAA players that turn pro under the age of 22 will be subjected to the criteria above.

European players who sign their first NHL contract at or above the age of 22 have three seasons from the time they sign that contract to meet the above criteria. Those European players below the age of 22 that have signed a NHL contract will be subjected to the criteria in section one.

NOTE: These are general guidelines and should be followed the majority of the time but certain players may still be listed as prospects if circumstances warrant.

As stated in the other thread, Reunanen had almost 22 minutes of TOI to go with his +1, 3 shots and primary assist.

Jacob Ragnarsson made his regular season debut and played over 21 minutes. However, he also was a -3.

Pajuniemi played in a ChHL game and had no points.

sean day still not understanding stuff.
You know, his first two games, I watched him pretty intently and I actually thought he acquitted himself well to the pro game. He wasn't even really trying the end-to-end shit but was still transporting the puck pretty well, moving around nicely, playing pretty solidly on defense without any enormous mistakes. I've only seen him once since, and he was looking pretty brain-dead. I guess it was enough to earn him a scratch in one game.

Also, I don't typically subscribe much to +/-, but you've got Bigras at a +8, Hajek +6, Lindgren a +1, and then Day clocking in at -5 in one fewer game than the other three. Even if you include Gilmour and O'Gara, they're still at -1 and -2 respectively. Why is Day out there for so many more ESG against than the rest of the guys?

Yeah isn't it like, years from draft age until the conclusion of their age 22 season, or something basically similar to that? So when you draft "over-age" guys you have fewer years to make a decision on giving them a deal.

CBA Article 8.6, subsection d:
(i) Notwithstanding any provision of Sections 8.6(a) or (b) to the contrary, if a Player drafted at age 18 or 19 is drafted from a club outside North America, his drafting Club shall retain the exclusive right of negotiation for his services through and including the fourth June 1 following his selection in the Entry Draft. The Club need not make a Bona Fide Offer to such Player to retain such rights.

(ii) Notwithstanding any provision of Sections 8.6(a) or (b) to the contrary, if a Player drafted at age 20 or older is drafted from a club outside North America, his drafting Club shall retain the exclusive right of negotiation for his services through and including the second June 1 following his selection in the Entry Draft. The Club need not make a Bona Fide Offer to such Player to retain such rights.

TL;DR
If an EU player is drafted at age 18 or 19, the club retains the rights for 4 years (Daniel Bernhardt, Tarmo Reunanen, Lauri Pajuniemi)
If an EU player is drafted at age 20 or older, the club retains the rights for 2 years (Dominik Lakatos, Patrik Virta)
Exception for this is players in the KHL since there is no transfer agreement. Rights of players in the KHL do not expire

Virta only played like 8:30, though. And it wasn't like he got hurt at some point or benched, as his TOI was pretty evenly-distributed by period. I don't like that.

What would be considered a good season for Virta? 15 points? 20 points? I have to assume the Rangers will sign him at the end of the season to get him playing in Hartford as soon as possible?

Depends on his role. If he gets the TOI he has been to this point and keeps up his pace he'd have about 25 points. Today he played sparingly, so if that continues, obviously adjust projections accordingly. I personally was hoping, optimistically, that he could put up 20-25 points, so he's right where I wanted him to be.

If his TOI/GP stays in the 12-13min region then anything even remotely close to 0.5 PPG is great, above like 0.25-0.3 is fine.

Pajuniemi played a game on loan with TUTO Sport in Mestis last Friday. I missed that. Sucks he has to get loaned to a Mestis club.

Please tell me there’s a nice easy way to say Pajuniemi.

That’s odd, getting PP time and that little ice time? Could it be that he is hurt but they don’t use him more than necessary?

Always a risk of the stats being wrong too.

Last time was the first I remember his TOI being that low. He's usually around 12-14 minutes. So who knows.

Keane with his second fight this year last night. I like feisty but I'm not sure he should fight all that much. He's more of a skilled guy.
