havent followed prospects at all this year and just noticed how prolific schneider and robertsons seasons were. very nice to see that sort of offensive production for guys that are supposed to be more defensive minded/2 way dmen.

I’m too lazy but would be interesting if someone lists out our better prospects and 1-2 yr players and poll which ones to flip and which to keep

Thing is no one agrees on this TBH.

There's so much prospect depth on the blue line that you've got like 35 different potential combinations of keep/trade.

If you assume 3 defensemen are locked in with Fox, Lindgren, Trouba, that's only 3 spots left for

Miller
Lundkvist
Schneider

Robertson
Jones

Reunanen
Skinner

In those three tiers. The last thing you want to have happen is to trade Jones and Miller only to have Robertson bust, or trade Lundkvist only to have Schneider bust.

Don't visit this thread enough, so sorry if this gets asked alot but whats the current projection for this kid? Will he ever realistically make it to the pro's? I assume he has a long way to go in any event.

Right now he can of course not be projected to become more than a Gettinger type of performer. But the key is just to keep developing on a steady basis. With someone like him, you can't hope for a hockey stick curve, but as long as its trending in the right direction, there is still hope for it to not level out. And I mean, if it keep going up like we see with some players basically into their 30s, all of a sudden they are pretty good.

He has height, OK skills and plays the right way. Aggressive on the forecheck.

I think Jones belongs in the top grouping. If he gets traded, I want something very useful in return. His first pass is already second best on the team, to Fox.

Edstrom, remember that for all the nice things we've said about him over the past two years, he's still essentially a fourth liner in a league that in terms of overall quality is pretty close to the AHL (the normal AHL, not this year's version of the AHL). Guys generally need to be better than fourth line players in the AHL to become fourth line players in the NHL. So, ideally you'd see an increase in production from him at some point--whether it's with Rogle or when he signs and comes to the US--to make you believe he can work on an NHL fourth line.

One thing working to his favor, I think his physical style will play better in North America than Europe. This is in no way a criticism of the various European leagues, but in general, they're more strict in in enforcing illegal contact-type rules than North American leagues. So, I could totally see him coming here and "unleashing" himself. You can kind of see him in the SHL, there are times where he really has guys lined up, but he'll pull up instead of really wiping a guy out. That may be in part because of the hit he threw at the beginning of the year where he received the harsh suspension.

I still think it ultimately comes down to the skating and whether his skill can translate well enough to pick up hard points around the net. Someone mentioned Gettinger, it's an interesting comparison because of the size; yet Gettinger has demonstrated he can be a productive player picking up points around the net, Edstrom has yet to do so. However, Edstrom also plays the brand of physical hockey that everyone always wanted Gettinger to play. So, I do believe he has the ability to be a better version of Gettinger, but he still needs to show the can produce those tough points in order to get there.

Yes, every player at the NHL level need to be atleast at the "floor" in every aspect. A minimum level of skating, of puck-handling, at physicality etc. If you get to the floor you can hang in the game and your skills above the floor will sort you into what kind of role you can get or handle. For Edström he need to get to the speed and skill floors where hopefully his physical play should be very good and give him a role as a physical presence on the 4. line. If he also can improve another tool his path to a Brian Boyle career is there. He can become a decent scorer/front net presence to become more of a 3. liner putting up 15 goals a year, or he can become a PK-specialist and strong on the dot for a more defensive kind of player, or a bruising aggressive forchecker in the mold of Ryan Reaves.

i sse the grouping similarly but sightly differently - Miller proven, and, then Lundkvist/Schneider/Robertson/Jones

to me, no one can confidently sort out Lundkvist/Schneider/Robertson/Jones -
ALL 4 have consistently performed at high level since draft day.

TBH I had had Jones a hair behind the other 3, even with his NCAA work,
until his games w NYR which have showcased his 2-way instincts, his smart aggressive backchecks, as well as his first pass and O-zone skills.

I do suspect Jones may be the trade bit piece (barring a Godfather offer for Lundkvist) given the skills overlap w Fox/Lundkvist, and the 2-way upside and size brought by Schneider and Robertson.

But i am fine with keeping all, for a while,
a D corps of Trouba/Miller, Fox/Lindgren, Schneider/Lundkvist, Jones/Roberston
is workable - few d-men play al 82 games, there are always injuries, illness, suspension, personal leave, etc.
IF 8 guys evenly split the entire season, they each play 61 pr 62 games...
and we are talking about 4 guys who have easy transfer to/from Pack for a few seasons

No matter how it gets sliced up, the D is headed towards being a major asset instead of a major debit.

Great for him. He's a hard worker. He did in fact switch to forward a couple seasons ago. He also had a bad shoulder injury that cost him basically a whole year. Glad to see him getting rewarded with the call.

Yeah really good for him. I had originally that he was playing forward, but saw some conflicting info that he was in for an injured Claesson. Either way, always love to see it.

We have five guys left playing:

Pajuniemi; TPS is in the finals down 2-1 and losing Game 4, 4-2 after 2.
Ragnarsson; Timra is in the finals which had been delayed several weeks and lead 3-1 over Bjorkloven, next game tomorrow.
Garand: Last game for Kamloops is tomorrow.
Elmer: On loan to the Jacksonville Icemen in the ECHL and they have legit 15 games left.
Crawley: On loan to Cleveland in the AHL, they have three games left with the last on the 15th.

TPS got smoked by Lock 6-2 and is down 3-1 in the finals. Pajuniemi was -2. His line is 4-4-8, +1, 8 PIM in 13 playoff games.
It was a best of 5 series, Lukko won the championship. I guess it was their time, their last one was in 1963. All the rounds in Finnish Liiga this season was best of 5, because of the covid-situation and timetable of the IIHF World Championships.

Getting the silver was an unbelievable achievement for this TPS team. Before this season, we hired a Finnish hockey legend, but so far failed head coach Raimo Helminen who was thoroughly ridiculed by every media. We had a bunch of good youngsters, who people still hadn't really established themselves. We had 8 foreign players, which is not really that different from some other teams but earned us the nickname "Foreign Legion". Pre-season previews had as around 12th/15. Regular season we finished 3rd, and then into the finals. And this Lukko team, which had been dominating the last two years with a margin not really seen in recent years in Liiga, with their long term team building. Imagine them as Tampa Bay of last season basically. Just instead of getting swept the previous year, Finnish season was canceled all together.

As for Pajuniemi, he does have that great shot. But it will definitely take him at least a season in the AHL to round his overall game. Not that we likely have a spot for him in the Rangers roster next season anyway. Still overall a good season for him.

love how the Rangers traded for him and never gave him any chance at the NHL level despite playing well for Hartford

Steve Valiquette ,Dan Girardi, Brandon Dubinsky, Ryan Callahan, Lauri Korpikoski, Dale Puritnon, Brad Isbister, Tom Pyatt (the key in the McDonagh Trade):sarcasm: and BIG BUST JESSIMAN was all on that team.
Jarkko Immonen only played 20 games but had a great career in Finland, KHL and other Euro Leagues. Rangers made a mistake with him.
Dane Byers never got a real chance, Dawes could have stayed in the NHL., Craig Weller had under 100 NHL games, Bryce Lampman 10 NHL games, Corey Potter 130 NHL games, Francis Lessard 115 NHL games mostly before Rangers organization

Edström and Pajuniemi losing in the finals means their season is over. Pajuniemi might get a call up for Finland after the EHT concludes.

Dylan Garand and Jakob Ragnarsson are the last players active (aside from international play).
