Apparently Barron is taking his time to decide whether or not he will sign this year.

https://nypost.com/2020/04/18/ncaa-coronavirus-halt-complicating-morgan-barrons-rangers-decision/

no reason for him to rush the decision with everything shutdown and no idea what will happen next season, no less this season. definitely a weird situation for him. he could return to school and then ncaa won't play...but he could also turn pro and the nhl doesn't start on time and he's left sitting at home thinking 'i could be finishing my degree right now'

According to @Caser (someone who is quite reliable when it comes to European player news), Nicklas Jensen has decided to stay another year with Jokerit meaning that the Rangers will lose his rights and he'll be a Free Agent to sign in the NHL. Sucks he couldn't get a real chance here, he was a stud in the minors. Wish him future success!! Has some great offensive abilities!!

CapFriendly had him as becoming a free agent after this season. So, who knows.

The Rangers tried to bring him back but he wouldn't sign the QO because he was unwilling to potentially play in Hartford. When he does hit UFA, whenever that may be, it will be interesting to see what kind of interest he generates.

Definitely, I'm wondering the same. I think if a team is willing to sign him a 1 way deal he will come. But he has made his point about not playing in the AHL and he has proved it overseas.

His unwillingness to go the AHL (that should be respected since it's more about making a living with options available to him rather than becoming an NHLer to "win a Stanley Cup") will probably limit his NHL options to the likes of Detroit, Ottawa or Buffalo...

NYR would lose his rights anyway on the 1st of July (or whenever the UFA market would open), since he is already 27.

Wondering if some college players like Barron might forego another college year if they got to play a month in the NHL and then the PO's. The NHL potentially resuming play in June, July creates some interesting options for current prospects who might be able to join their NHL teams this season.

Certainly his prerogative, but if he can’t/won’t play defense, he has very little value. And if he can play defense, I don’t know why he’d be worried about potentially having to do a stint in the minors.
Anyhow, I am glad the Rangers are no longer reliant on these kind of long-shots. The development over the past four or five years is amazing.

For those who are subscribers, over the last two days Carp has published his top 10 Rangers prospects:

Ranking the top prospects in the Rangers' system, part one
Ranking the top prospects in the Rangers' system, part two

For those who are not, here's the list without his commentary:

10. Richards
9. Henriksson
8. Pajuniemi
7. Robertson
6. Wall
5. Jones
4. Barron
3. Miller
2. Lundkvist
1. Kravtsov

He went with Pronman's criteria for graduation, so Kakko, Shesterkin, Fox, Lindgren, and Hajek have all graduated – as have Chytil and Howden, obviously. (He also threw Gauthier into the already graduated category even though he technically still qualifies for the list.) Rykov and Reunanen got mentions in the article as well, so safe to say they qualify as the HMs. (he also mentioned Khodorenko and Rueschhoff, but that was more in the context of "other college signings like Richards".)

Tomorrow, he'll do a third list "evaluating the progress of a handful of young players who’ve already arrived."

yeah, after 6-10 i was wondering who he'd have in top 5 with Miller, Lundkvist, Kravstov, Barron
Jones was kinda the only choice
(he'd eliminated Tarmo, Rykov in his opening comments)

it will be interesting in 4-5 years to compare the NHL futures of this pipeline of 11 LHD
only Rykov, just 23, much older than young 22, 8 of them born within a 2 years span

9801 Day9909 Ragnarsson0010 ZJones

Any mention of Huska? Just surprised seeing Wall this high.

within the Wall section, but he only ranked 10 players, then cited some other guys at some points

"... overstocked in goal. The three-goalie drama that broke out in the second half of this season ...
Then you have Hartford goalie Adam Huska, UMass-Lowell goalie Wall, and Swedish prospect Olof Lindbom. All of those have had, and will have, the benefit of tutelage from goalie whisperer Benoit Allaire.“Like pitchers, you never have enough,” Drury said.

Pajuniemi is apparently doing his service right now, the plan ATM is to spend one more season in Finland.

We did pass on Ryan Mantha from the draft before (as well as Iverson) and that was looking like a mistake. Mantha was doing really well and looking like he had a certain NHL future until his horrible injury/condition.

Yeah the later two of his three years on the ELC he didn't play a single game. Shame honestly....

Gorton made a couple of bad moves because AV was a clueless imbecile with defenseman. All he wanted was small, fast skating, puck moving defesnseman. He didn't have any use for stay at home defenseman.

Is this a joke? AV constantly kept Yandle on the 3rd pair, and barely played Tony, while keeping guys like Staal, Holden, and Girardi glued to the Top 4.
