What Makes a Prospect?
A player will be considered a prospect until he meets the following criteria:

If a prospect is a skater (forward, defenseman) and has played in 65 NHL games or more before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday; or, if a goaltender has played in 45 NHL games before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday, that player will be considered graduated to the NHL. Conversely, if a player completes the season of his 24th birthday without passing those milestones, then that player will no longer be considered a prospect by Hockey’s Future, regardless of the player’s status with his NHL club.

An NCAA player who signs his first contract at or above the age of 22 has three years to meet the above criteria (65/45), while those NCAA players that turn pro under the age of 22 will be subjected to the criteria above.

European players who sign their first NHL contract at or above the age of 22 have three seasons from the time they sign that contract to meet the above criteria. Those European players below the age of 22 that have signed a NHL contract will be subjected to the criteria in section one.

NOTE: These are general guidelines and should be followed the majority of the time but certain players may still be listed as prospects if circumstances warrant.

Going back to the conversation in the last thread....

I think Barron would benefit dominating in all 4 years at school. Same goes with Miller, but I do think Miller would need another year regardless. With this said, Barron and Miller could ultimately stay all for years for education purposes.

We'll see. Just wanted to throw my two cents into the pot!!

Still hope we get a high round pick out of this draft. We have good talent but nothing like Mackinnon, Makar, McDavid, Draistal, Marner etc
Wonder if Barkov/Aho pull a Tavares sometime down the line.

Both Miller and Barron are capable of physically dominating the opposition, so from that perspective, both could make the jump. The big difference is Barron is mature, and K'Andre is still fairly raw and still has a lot to learn about being an actual defenseman.

I don't know if there will be much more for Barron to do after this year. Miller? Unless he makes enormous strides, he could still definitely benefit from learning the position in college.

the other side of the argument not being considered is whether or not these guys want to leave school early...the first part of the discussion is whats best for them as hockey players, but I have no idea what kind of importance barron puts on graduating and getting his degree from cornell...and yeah I know he can take classes and graduate later like i'm sure Fox will do, but still don't know what his priorities are there.

Think Barron is going to get a good look at C or Wing?

Always assumed 1 more year at college after this for Miller but not sure on Barron

The league is getting younger and younger, if Barron wants to chase his dream of being in the NHL and has developed beyond the level he is playing at, then he should move up. He can sign his ELC and graduate after his pro career is over. His ELC alone will afford him the ability to spend the time to finish his final year of school after hockey. Or he can take coursework over the summer.

Miller, on the other hand, is playing a much harder position and is still quite raw defensively. He has plenty to learn hockey-wise at the collegiate level. I would strongly recommend he stay for his junior year. And we'll take it from there. He needs to solidify the foundational aspects of his position at collegiate speed. Not pro speed. Miller for all of his truly off the charts physical tools is still a project. I don't know exactly what Wisconsin is able to offer Miller when it comes to individualized positional training and video work, but the more, the better.

You sign Barron to a contract for next season(and an ATO for the remainder of the season) because 2020 is the last one where his ELC would last 3 seasons. His leverage is to skip the ATO and start the ELC clock this year.

Miller can return for his junior year and sign after that.

could someone please explain to this clueless non rangers fan why is Shestyorkin in the AHL ?
Thank you
Needed time to adjust to rink dimensions(even though a third of KHL rinks are that size) pace of NA game.

There’s talk of sending Georgiev down (before he’s no longer waivers exempt) to give Shestyorkin a look so they can figure out what their next move is.

Right now you could get a small fortune if you dealt Georgiev to San Jose or Toronto, but all you’d really want is a 1st rd pick a couple of years down the line.

I firmly believe Kakko will be in this conversation sooner than much later.

I do however agree that one more high pick + all the depth we've been cultivating, will go miles more than the teams those aforementioned players play for.

I don't see him getting an ELC, but an AHL deal with the pack could definitely be on the table.

Oh, I wouldn't give him a NHL deal at all. Too much risk with his health until he can show he can play in the pros.

I don't even know if he continues his career post-college. He may choose to do something else.

it seems his health issue is 3+ years behind him
