Richards - I think he has the tools to carve out a nice 4th line career and play a valuable, if underrated role.

Richards.

Add Ciccolini. The kid had a pretty solid freshman season for Michigan.

I was considering Ciccolini. I'll say this, for all of the prospects that have been discussed about the possibility for them to rise up the rankings, I'll say Ciccolini has a similar ability if he has a good sophomore season. 11 points in 26 games as a freshman is solid production

Contrast that with someone like Riley Hughes, a 7th rounder from the prior draft. Goes to the BCHL in his D+1 season, ends up barely averaging a PPG, despite playing with Newhook, who averages 2 PPG. Then goes to Northeastern in his D+2 season and scores 4P in 34GP.

Ciccolini gets drafted out of the OJHL, goes right to Michigan for his D+1 season, and scores 11P in 26GP.

Very different results when they upped the level of competition. OJHL to NCAA is a bigger jump than BCHL to NCAA, and Ciccolini performed far better, at a younger age. He needs to follow it up with clear progression in his sophomore season, but there's legit reasons to be excited about the kid.

Yeah I remember a few people who were excited about Hughes, and I kept trying to say that his BCHL production was actually not at all impressive, given the context of playing with Newhook.

Ciccolini has a lot of skill and saw more responsibility as the season wore on, before the injury. Hopefully he can pick up where he left off and get some good minutes for Michigan if/when they resume.

That injury (overextended elbow) was bugging him for over a year (starting in the OJHL) and he kept playing through it. Once he decided to get surgery, and sacrifice the remainder of his season, he finally had time to heal. He has fully recovered now so that's at least a good sign.
