The hats weren't free in 2012. Rangers marked up tickets. I actually bought similar seats from NHL directly for $50 less.

Educated guess...the Rangers moved up the season ticket payment plan this year because of a) greed and b) a desire to clear the decks before the Winter Classic tickets invloices go out.

They made us pay for them (and a scarf) and they were crappy. Too small and not appealing. Any new hats must have a pom pom, it's mandatory for winter

I think the worst seats started at around $100 or a little below in the past. Here's the Stadium Series pricing in 2014 for the Rangers. Believe 2012 in Philly was similar.

That was also 2 games in 2014. All tickets have sky-rocketed since 2012 and 2014.
